About Me

Meet Luke
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1 Year

Estimated Weight:  26 Pounds

UPDATE – 28 AUGUST 2021: Luke is moving into his third week with us, and he’s such a joy. He wants to be part of all the exciting things around the house and always follows the humans. He is most energetic in the morning. He loves to chase and romp around the house with his foster sister after waking up before going out for the first walk of the day. Luke loves to sleep on his favorite chair and in the human’s bed. He’s also quite the snuggler. :) Luke did great at the local dog park earlier in the week. He loves to run and say hello to all of the people and dogs. Luke likes to bark and say hello to everyone he sees (people and dogs), but it is not aggressive. Once he meets a pup, he’s content and goes about his business. He’s done great walking in downtown Baltimore, so we’d do well living in a city or suburban environment. He’d be great as a single pup or in a multi-pup household. Like any young pup, Luke would benefit from obedience school to improve his barking manners. He will bark at anyone walking by during the day when he’s looking out our front window. We continue to work on modifying this behavior. He is fine when he’s distracted or playing in another room. Overall, Luke is a great guy and deserves a permanent loving home.

UPDATE – 17 AUGUST 2021 (from foster family): We’ve enjoyed getting to know Luke over the last week. He’s a very happy pup who loves to follow his hound foster sister and parents around the house. He can be slightly timid when experiencing new things and places but becomes comfortable quickly. He loves to spend time in the backyard and looking out the front window of the house. He does have that famous beagle bark/howl. He loves to tell us when people are walking by the front of the house. For someone working from home, he’d make a great companion. He likes to lay next to us as we work from home. He is quiet during meetings and calls as long as we do not work near the front window. He does well on a leash, with no pulling. He does like to say hello to all the people and pups he sees on his walks. He will often bark at them, but he’s a happy guy once he gets to meet them. Luke receives lots of compliments on his handsome blue tick coloring. We are working on improving his barking manners.

As for housetraining, he’s had a few accidents since his arrival, but it seems to be improving as we offer regular outdoor time during the day. Luke has free rein of his foster home, so he has not been crated and discovered the comfort of the human’s bed. He’s a big fan of all toys and bones and loves to toss them around the room and chase them. Luke is a wonderful guy who would do well in a loving home as a single pup or with siblings. We have yet to meet a kitty, but judging by his good nature, we think he’d be just fine with a feline friend.

UPDATE – 10 AUGUST 2021: Luke went off to a foster home this week, so stay tuned as we learn more about this handsome boy.

UPDATE – 7 JULY 2021: Luke is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.

NEW – 6 JULY 2021: Luke and Duke were strays who came to BREW from a West Virginia shelter. Luke is a handsome, happy, and playful beagle boy.  He’s very social, friendly and good with other dogs. He will be available soon.

Questions?

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
