Mayhem
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 25 Pounds
NOTE: Would enjoy having another dog buddy in the home for companionship.
UPDATE - 6 APRIL 2025 (from foster mom): Mayhem is full of fun and personality. While he doesn't live up to his name, he does have a reputation (not deserved - keep reading). Mayhem was adopted but returned after one night and he then had an overnight stay in a foster home while on a trip to the kennels - on both occasions he was not a good overnight guest. His first night in his current foster home was no different. Some melatonin helped him settle down. This behavior isn't unexpected from a dog who spent almost a year in our kennels and likely had not spent time in a home before. The good news is he has now been with us for three weeks and happily settles down at night!
This little guy is super loving. He will get in your face with his paws on your shoulders to bestow his kisses. He is pretty energetic with giving and receiving love but does settle down to a good nap by your side. Because of his energy, he might not be a good match for small children.
He behaves nicely on walks and doesn't pull - though occasionally I have to pull him along when he has found an extra good scent. He gets along well with the other dogs in the house - whether playful, aloof or grumpy. He respects their boundaries. Mayhem loves chew toys and will tackle the biggest ones on offer. Mayhem has restricted his chewing to approved dog toys. He is still working on his housetraining but he doesn't mark - either in the house or on walks. He loves meal times and cookies - no surprise there.
Mayhem is 50% beagle, 40% french bulldog and 10% pug. As a result, he has a great face!
UPDATE - 15 MARCH 2025: Mayhem joined us at today's Adoption Day and charmed everyone with his silly antics and very unique face. The good news is that face was found to be so adorable that he ended up going to a foster home! Mayhem is full of energy and very social. He now has a chance to get some training and show that he will make a wonderful pet. Stay tuned as we see how Mayhem does in his new foster home!
UPDATE - 2 NOVEMBER 2024: If you are looking for a social, silly beagle boy with lots of energy, Mayhem is the buddy for you! Mayhem came to Beaglefest today and had a blast racing around the dog park with all the other dogs and humans. He laid kisses on any human face that dared to get too close. Mayhem would love to find a foster home or permanent home where he can get lots of exericise and learn some manners.
UPDATE - 23 MAY 2024: Mayhem is absolutely adorable and had a great time at our last Adoption Day! He is an active boy who makes friends with everyone he meets! Mayhem is still looking for a foster or forever home.
NEW - 10 May 2024: Mayhem is a very cute beagle mix. He’s an active boy who is super friendly and playful. He and 4 others were abandoned and picked up by Animal Control in Louisa County, Virginia, so their history is unknown. Mayhem is available for fostering or adoption and will be attending the Adoption Day on May 11th!
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
