About Me
Princess Eclair
Status: Living at our private kennel
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 26 Pounds
UPDATE - 10 SEPTEMBER 2025: Princess Eclair is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption. We did a DNA test on this princess, and here are the results (she is beagle-sized): American Foxhound, 60%; Russel-type Terrier, 14%, Beagle, 10%, Other 16%. She is officially a Beagle mix!
NEW - 22 AUGUST 2025: Princess Eclair was a stray originally taken in by a family in Buckingham, Virginia. She was emaciated and full of ticks. The family is not able to keep her, and the Buckingham Animal Shelter is full, so she is now with BREW and will be available for adoption after she is seen by our vet. In the meantime, here's is what the family learned about her during her stay with them:
I gave her a flea bath and a dose of PetArmor Plus on 8/5. She’s still losing some scabs from all of the ticks and wounds she had when she showed up. She was in really poor shape, but she has turned out to be a great dog!
Pros: Princess is potty trained and uses the dog door. She is great with other dogs of various sizes and loves to play with dogs (we have 5) and toys. She enjoys chew toys and is excellent in a crate overnight. She is perfect with kids, even our littlest guy. She gives lots of kisses and loves to cuddle. She is super sweet and definitely loves people.
Cons: She is overly curious although not aggressive with cats. She dug under our fence and ran off twice so she will need somebody to watch her outside (or have a different type of fence). She did come back quickly when called. She is defensive of food with the other dogs but not with people.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
