UPDATE - 21 APRIL 2025: Little Sprinkle has now been with BREW for almost a year and has been in her foster home for 8 months. She is little and sweet, and we don't know why she still hasn't found her furever home. She can be shy with humans, but she loves her doggie buddies at the foster home and loves going on walks. She has the coolest eyes! Here is the latest update from her foster family:
Sprinkle is a beautiful girl, gentle soul, crazy sniffer! She loves going for walks, she never shies away from a leash! But she still shies away from us when we approach her, although she now more readily comes up to her foster dad whenever he is giving the resident dogs head and back rubs. She’ll practically worm herself between his hand and one of the other dogs just to get petted. We sometimes have to corner her on the couch to give her pets & belly rubs, but she really does love attention. Sprinkle loves cuddling with the resident dogs. She’s been great with meeting other dogs but goes crazy when she sees a cat. We don’t have experience with kids yet.
Sweet Sprinkle is so amazing! Recently we were re-introducing 2 former-fosters (dachshund-beagle mixes!) to our pack for a weekend of dog-sitting. Sprinkle had already met them. Now we have another foster, Catarina, who can be a little dominating with other dogs. While introducing Catarina to the guest dogs, Sprinkle played peace-keeper by putting herself gently between Cat & the others to keep the peace! No growls, no posturing, just re-direction! Amazing! Sprinkle became fast friends with out 2 guests as well!
UPDATE - 23 JANUARY 2025: Little Miss Sprinkle is becoming less Skittles and more Sparkle! She really enjoys human snuggles every time we sit down or go to bed! However, she still backs up if we approach her, so we let her come to us on her terms. She is right there if we get the treats and leashes out! She goes nuts for walks, is in total hunt-mode, and sniffs and zig zags the whole time. She is such a sweetheart!
UPDATE - 21 DECEMBER 2024: Sprinkle (aka Skittles) is a great friend to other dogs. She loves to play & snuggle with them and their toys. She can be sweet & snuggly with people too, but like a cat, attention is on her terms. We sit down, then she’ll decide to come over for pets & snuggles. Other times she will roll onto her back for belly rubs! It has taken some time to get her to be less skittish around us & noises. She has easily learned the doggie door, stairs, feeding & bed routines. She does her business outside & on walks (with a rare accidental pee in the kitchen after breakfast). Sprinkle loves to go for walks because there are so many crazy smells to follow! She can be a handful on walks but lots of fun! She has more confidence when she is around other dogs and really gets along great with them!
UPDATE - 9 SEPTEMBER 2024 (from foster family): What a sweet yet shy girl! She will shy away when we try to approach her, but she will approach us for ear scritches & belly rubs! Skittles (I mean Sprinkle) has had no accidents in the house ever since she learned to use the doggie door. She loves to go on walks, play with other dogs, and snuggle once in a while. Sprinkle is still skittsh about eating, but she is getting better. She is slowly learning that we have specific meal times, though she may prefer to graze throughout the day - sadly not something our resident beagles allow! Sprinkle has started playing with toys on her own, but she especially loves running in our backyard with the other dogs. She can climb/jump a 4’-ft fence, so we highly recommend a 6-ft fenced yard or keeping her on a leash.
UPDATE - 21 AUGUST 2024: Sweet little Sprinkle has completed her heartworm treatment and went off to a foster home! Stay tuned as we see how she adjusts to living in a house.
NEW - 30 MAY 2024: Sprinkle is a small beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She is fully vetted but heartworm positive, so she needs to go through treatment. She was a stray at the Madison County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. Sprinkle will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
