About Me
Meet Journee
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 8-9 Months
Estimated Weight: 26-28 Pounds
UPDATE - 31 MARCH 2022: Journee is still very much a puppy! She’s gaining weight and growing tall. She loves to play with her foster siblings and requires a good amount of activity each day, 2-3 hours of walking/running at the park. She loves to play with balls at the park! She would spend all day playing with a ball if she has the opportunity. Since she is still young, she does need to have close supervision with play. Once exercised, she's calm and content.
Journee shows resource guarding when eating, chewing a bone, or with toys, so activities must be monitored. Like any puppy, all things in the house are very interesting, so objects needs to be out of reach. House training has improved as she has learned to walk to the patio door when she needs to go out, but it is not perfect. Journee would do well in a single dog home or multi-dog home if well exercised. She would also benefit from obedience school.
UPDATE - 18 MARCH 2022: Journee continues to be a sweet girl. She still has very puppy-like behavior and shows an exuberance for the world. Journee is quite curious and will find all kinds of things to play with or try to eat. In our time with her, she is pretty playful. However, we have to consistently supervise Journee due to age and stay out of trouble!
She gets along very well with our dogs. Journee loves to play with her foster siblings, and they watch over each other while indoors. She will share a bed with her foster sister, Shelby, and is learning a lot by being a good source of company.
Journee continues to be a love bug. She wants to be involved in activities at home. Journee loves to lounge on a chair, lay on the doggy bed, or be with her foster parents during family time.
Journee shows resource guarding, so supervision is needed when playing with bones or toys. At times, she doesn't like to be bothered by her foster siblings once she's comfortable. She gets along well with the pups at the dog park, and we have not seen her be aggressive. However, if she gets a ball, she never wants to leave!
Journee has a lot of energy. She runs for 45-60 minutes three times per day and still has energy at home. An adoptee needs to fully commit to providing her with a significant amount of exercise daily.
Housetraining continues to be a work in progress for Journee. We are teaching her how to signal when to use the bathroom outside. The good news is that the accidents over the past week have gone down. We are proactive in making sure she goes out every few hours with her foster siblings to learn.
UPDATE - 27 FEBRUARY 2022: Journee is now in our second weekend with us, and it has been pure joy. She is an eight-month-old puppy, a super-friendly and curious beagle mix. So far, we have discovered that she is not shy around dogs and wants to become buddies with every one of them. Journee is doing great with our young pup, Shelby, and another BREW foster staying at our home. They all walk in tandem when outside and play together at the dog park. Journee loves to give kisses, follow her foster folks and lounge on a favorite chair for dogs in our home.
She is not apprehensive about meeting people and wants to be in the center of everything. Everyone she encounters thinks she is cute and loves her energy. Journee has done well in the big city and seems not to fear anything. We figured that she might need some socialization; however, we believe she will do fine with people and dogs.
We have observed that Journee needs some housetraining and maybe some obedience school; however, we are teaching her the ‘sit’ and ‘down’ commands. She loves to discover, and we try to take her for at least 30-minute walks three times a day or a visit to the dog park for at least an hour. Once Journee gets her exercise in, she does calm down and nods off to sleep.
Overall, Journee is a buoyant ball of energy and will be a great dog. She will need to go to a home where her new family will need some patience and work on a few things. However, Journee will do very well with other dogs and kids. She is still a puppy and requires at least 90 minutes or more of exercise a day. Journee may also have some resource guarding instincts. If she were to go a home with other dogs, it is highly recommended that feeding and play time is supervised.
With a bit of love and TLC, Journee will be a welcome addition to any family. We hope that you have room in your hearts to allow her into your forever home.
UPDATE - 19 FEBRUARY 2022: Young Journee has now joined us for two adoption events, but she wonders why she hasn't been adopted yet. This long-legged girl is very friendly, loves to give kisses, and just needs to settle into a forever home where she can be loved and get some training. The good news is we were able to find a foster home for Journee, so she will finally get a chance to learn what it means to be a house dog. Stay tuned for updates from her foster family!
UPDATE - 19 DECEMBER 2021: Journee is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 29 NOVEMBER 2021: Journee is a young beagle/hound mix who is sweet, friendly and good with other dogs. She was in fairly bad shape when she came to the Amelia County Animal Shelter in Virginia, but she is on the mend and doing well. She was a stray, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
