About Me
Meet Rafael
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 8-9 Months
Estimated Weight: Adult weight in low 20s
NOTE: Timid around new people; no young children; best with a confident dog friend.
UPDATE - 10 MAY 2022 (from foster family): Rafael has made great progress in learning to live in a home after the kennel. He is still learning the noises of a house and can be a bit jumpy with any loud or strange noises, but he is adapting more and more everyday. Rafael gets along well with all other dogs. He wants to play and will zoom around the yard with his foster siblings. He has tons of puppy energy and needs lots of exercise. He loves going for walks as long as he has a confident dog by his side. Rafael is very timid with people. He will snuggle at bedtime but during the day he will often just follow his humans. He is learning how to play with toys and interact more with humans but prefers playing with dogs.
Rafael would do great in a family with older or no children. He would thrive in a home that has a fenced yard to run around but also could do well in a home where he would be walked on long walks multiple times a day. He is being crate trained but prefers not to be in the crate. He is a cute, busy puppy with lots of potential to grow.
UPDATE - 27 APRIL 2022: Rafael is now in a foster home and adjusting to live in a house. More soon!
UPDATE - 25 JANUARY 2022: Rafael is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 22 JANUARY 2022: Rafael and Cheerio are young littermates who came to BREW as strays from the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia. They are frightened and uncertain about what is happening. They both appear to have had little socialization and will need some time to gain confidence. Both boys will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
