About Me
Meet Lettie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Ages: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weights: 24 Pounds
UPDATE - 13 APRIL 2022: Lettie has been hard at work on her resume while in her foster home the last 3 weeks. Take a look and see if you have a vacancy you need filled!
Education:
Dog School
I don't recall the location or dates of attendance, but I must have graduated, possibly with honors, because I have all of my obedience skills down.
Experience:
Foster Home March 2022 - Present
I have adjusted extremely well here and have been given the opportunity to positively connect with humans and another dog. I exercise daily, but prefer my morning and evening walks to be at a slow and leisurely pace so that I can sniff EVERYTHING. Although the other dog in the house likes occasional horseplay, I prefer to cuddle quietly with dogs and people. During my time here I have received numerous awards (soft treats are my favorite), including the "No Accidents in the House" Award, "Best Cuddler" Award, and the "Cutest Senior Beagle" Award. I am looking forward to achieving my current goal - sitting before meals.
Veterinary Stay March 2022:
I spent only a short time in this position, having been released after spay surgery with no complications, but I was very successful at healing and am otherwise healthy.
Temporary Foster Home February - March 2022:
While this was a new experience for me, I appreciated the time and effort the family gave to make me feel comfortable.
Previous Positions:
It was rough but I am ready to move on.
Skills:
House trained (I like to go out every 3-4 hours, if possible, but I can hold it all night)
Crate trained (can be in crate for several hours if you have to leave me)
Quiet (I don't bark inside unless I hear a knock or doorbell, and outside, if I hear a dog conversation, I will try to be heard)
Great with dogs and people (I would probably be okay as an only dog, but I would also get along fine with a canine sibling; I am also gentle with younger children)
Eating (I prefer my food to be softer, but I am not food aggressive and prefer not to jump up on counters and tables to get people food)
Cuddling (probably my greatest strength, I am really good at this)
Sweet personality (I may take a few days to warm up because I have been through some tough times; I might whine a bit at first but if you are patient and kind with me, I will love you forever)
UPDATE - 31 MARCH 2022 (from foster family): Lettie is AMAZING! After getting spayed and cleared by the vet, Lettie came to us 10 days ago as our new foster dog. She settled right in, immediately snuggling up to the beagle of the house. They are now rarely apart and, if not tangled up in the same bed (see pictures), have been seen nudging two beds together so they can be close!
With the humans of the house, she warmed up after just the first day and now enjoys kisses and scritches from everyone. Despite her rough history with humans, she is not timid and is incredibly affectionate with all of us. Although there are no young children in the house, she does like visiting our 2-year old neighbor, and is gentle with her while getting a pet on the nose.
Lettie is house trained and does let us know with a whine at the door when she needs to go out. Because of her age (and probably her recent spay) she does need frequent bathroom breaks during the day, but she is quick to go and come back inside for more snuggletime! And she has not been up to go at all during the night.
When inside she enjoys relaxing most of the day, but she has been enjoying walks 3 times a day. She walks very well on a lead. And don’t let her age fool you … she is very active on her walk, even breaking into a full on sprint to keep up with the pack!
Lettie is going to be working on her resume for the next update, so she can tell everyone all the important things about her. But in the meantime, what we do know is that she is an amazing dog who loves to be loved!
UPDATE - 21 MARCH 2022: Lettie is now in a foster home, so we will be learning more about her soon!
NEW - 23 FEBRUARY 2022: Lettie is a super sweet beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She is house trained with a doggie door. She and Ettie were subjects of a cruelty case and were surrendered to the Fluvanna County Animal Shelter in Virginia. They had been in a foster home before they were transferred to BREW. Here is what Lettie's temporary foster family said about this girl:
This little lady may take a few days to feel comfortable, but when she does, she'll show her appreciation for your love by gazing at you with those beautiful eyes. When you come home after a busy day, she'll wait patiently until you're ready to sit, relax, and cuddle with her.
Lettie will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
