UPDATE - 8 JULY 2022 (from foster family): Yogi has had 1 owner who took excellent care of him. We have had Yogi for 3 weeks. Yogi is a quiet dog. We haven't heard him bark once, not even when someone comes to the door, or Yogi sees someone walking near our house. He has made sounds when dreaming (so cute). He would be good for someone who lives in an apartment. He is house-trained and there haven't been any accidents. We let him out about every 3-4 hours (either out in the backyard or walks) and he does his business. He gets let out before bedtime and he's good for the night. Yogi usually spends his naps in the crate. The crate is always open. We've never had a reason to keep him crated. He sleeps in our bedroom at the foot of the bed on a dog bed. He obeys to 'sit' and 'come.' When a treat's involved, he doesn't need the word. We're working on 'shake' and 'stay'.
We have a cat that is not friendly and not welcoming, which is probably why Yogi likes his crate, since he feels safe in there from the cat. Yogi avoids the cat and there hasn't been a problem between the two. We have not had a chance to see how Yogi would do with 1 or more small children. I think he would be fine with older children. Yogi would be good with another dog in the household; we had to leave town for a day, and we left him with a family with a number of beagles. He was happily exhausted when we picked him up.
His previous owner (who raised him from a pup) died and consequently he has some separation anxiety. He is the best beagle we've fostered. He's such a love, always calm and loving. Whoever adopts Yogi will be getting a wonderful friend and companion.
NEW - 19 JUNE 2022: Yogi is a great-looking senior beagle who came to BREW when his owner passed away. The owner had Yogi since he was a puppy, and he seems to be very loved and well cared for. Yogi doesn’t bark at all and will only howl at fire trucks if they drive by. He’s super friendly and gets along with kids and dogs and is house trained. He’s never lived with a cat, but nothing seems to bother him in his old age. He’s a great dog and super loving. Yogi just went to a BREW foster home and available for adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
