Meet Kade
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 8-9 Years
Estimated Weight: 28 Pounds
UPDATE - 2 APRIL 2024: Kade continues to be a great guy. He's gotten accustomed to his new routine and is such a nice edition to the family and gets along great with his foster sister and the family cat. He loves to go on walks in the neighborhood, loves to sniff, hunt, and run. He does have a shift in his gate when we walks, but that doesn't slow him down. He's mastered going up and down the stairs and can jump off the bed, just needs a lift up. He's very social and loves to say hi to dogs big and small. He does let you know when he's found a good smell too! He loves to look out the front window and will only bark if Shelby, our dog, starts barking. He does well being home by himself for a bit. He does love to chew cardboard, so we keep him entertained with treats and bones. He's such a sweetie! Check out this video of our boy on the move: Kade Running
UPDATE - 27 FEBRUARY 2024 (from new foster family): Wow, what can we say about Kade. He is such a great and laid-back little guy! He is a lover indoors and runner outside. He is calm indoors and rarely barks, though when he is outside his personality comes out. Kade loves his walks in the park, sniffing, and singing a song when he finds a scent or on the hunt. Obviously, his profile notes some mobility issues; however, Kade is able to keep up with his foster sister, Shelby, and foster kitty brother, and has shown minimal issues after brisk exercise. He is able to go up and down stairs and moves great indoors. Kade does need help getting in and out of vehicles, as he is unable to jump up into them. Then again, like any hound we have had, he loves food and loves to get on his hind legs for a treat! He loves his daily Dasuquin joint supplement.
Kade gets along very well with our dogs. Kade loves to play with his foster sister, and they watch over each other while indoors. He will share a bed with her and is learning a lot by being a good source of company. Kade is a love bug, as he wants to be involved with family activities at home. He loves to lay on the doggy bed and chill or relax on your lap. Overall, Kade is an amazing dog and would be an amazing addition to anyone’s home!
UPDATE - 10 FEBRUARY 2024: Joy, joy, joy! Kade is now in a foster home! We have had this boy for a long time, and we are thrilled to get him back into a foster home where his outdoor time can be supervised. He is so sweet and deserves a chance to live out his life in a home with humans who can work with his hip issues. We will be able to see how he does with stairs in his new foster home.
UPDATE - 1 JANUARY 2023: Unfortunately, Kade had to be moved to the kennels. He is a sweet boy and was house and crate trained at his foster home, but he made too much noise in the foster mom's back yard when she wasn't home (he used a doggie door to get in and out when she was gone). The neighbors complained. Kade would do well in a home where he is not allowed to be outside alone and gets exercised on a leash. He is so sweet and very quiet when he is not on a hunt.
UPDATE - 2 NOVEMBER 2022 (from foster mom): Kade is crate- and house-trained. He has hip dysphasia in one hip, but it's not bad enough for surgery and can be managed with joint supplements and pain meds, when necessary. Kade loves to hunt and can be very noisy when his nose picks up a scent, so he might do best in a home where he can frequently go to a dog park or where he is only walked on a leash to manage his hunting instincts. He might prove to be noisy if left outside in a fenced back yard.
UPDATE - 13 AUGUST 2022: What a nice boy! Kade joined us for our Adoption Day today. He didn't get adopted, but he did find a foster home. If you are looking for a calm, sweet boy, then Kade could be the one for you. He was quiet and easy to manage the entire time at the event. Our kennel manager, who is fostering Kade, says he loves to go out in the back yard and explore. She would like to see him go to a home where he has a back yard. He is all about his nose!
NEW - 26 JUNE 2022: Kade is a handsome beagle boy who is friendly and good with other dogs. He came in as a stray, along with Kohl, to the Fluvanna County Animal Shelter in Virginia. His history is unknown. Kade is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
