About Me
Meet Kenzie/Lucy
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1 Year
Estimated Weight: 17 Pounds
NOTE: Needs another dog; prefers a fenced yard for play.
UPDATE - 7 FEBRUARY 2023 (from foster family): Lucy (aka Kenzie) is ready to break some hearts this Valentine's Day. Her foster dad describes her as the functional definition of "cute." Lucy loves to play and romp in the backyard, so it is safe to say she will need canine companionship and a fenced yard in her furever home. Lucy dislikes a crate, and so another dog can help cheer her up when the human has to leave the house. She will need some gentle reminders to keep her alpha self in check. Lucy is house-trained and has completed Basic Manners training; her foster family can attest that she knows "stay," "come," "sit," and "down." Lucy possesses a high clear soprano voice, thus apartment living might not suit her or her neighbors. She does love long hikes in the woods and enjoys car rides. Lucy will be at adoption day on the 18th.
UPDATE - 22 JANUARY 2023: Well, young Kenzie (renamed Lucy) was adopted but had to be returned when her energy turned out to be a little too much for her new owner. She is such a sweet girl, so we hope we can find her a new family soon. Fortunately, we were able to find her a foster home. Here is an initial report from her new foster family on her first day back with BREW:
We can already tell you that she's very friendly and loving and gets along well with other dogs. More soon!
UPDATE - 15 AUGUST 2022 (an update from Kenzie at her first foster home before her first adoption!): It’s been a little over a week now in my foster home, and I’m really settling in! My host brother, #charliethebrew, tolerates my invading his space, and we have started a routine morning case of the zoomies around the backyard before breakfast. It’s quite fun, and boy is he fast! He catches me all the time, but I keep trying!
I very much enjoy chillin with family by the pool. My favorite part is jumping up to sit next to a human and lay in the sun with them. . This morning I found some kid pool toys, but I guess host mom says “baby shark” isn’t for me. It’s just so fun to carry around, but she gave me “dog toys” instead. Nope, I want the shark!
I’m starting to get a voice and not hide so much, but I’m still pretty quiet. I like the security of my crate.
I went to the farmers market in Leesburg this past Saturday, and it was very overwhelming, but everyone wanted to pet me and I loved that. When I got scared, my human host brother carried me around.
Still, breakfast and dinner are my favorite times of the day!!
Kenzie
UPDATE - 7 AUGUST 2022: Kenzie is now fully vetted and went off to a foster home. We should be hearing from her new foster family soon.
NEW - 19 JULY 2022: Kenzie was surrendered to the Buckingham Animal Shelter in Virginia with Venice, Brighe, Birdie Mae and Kamari. They are now all with BREW. We don't know their history, but Kenzie seems to be friendly and good with other dogs. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
