About Me
Meet Brielle
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3-4 Years
Estimated Weight: 25 Pounds
UPDATE - 17 FEBRUARY 2023: Brielle continues to be a great addition to her foster family! She loves to snuggle with both humans and her furry siblings. She is becoming more confident meeting people. Several months ago she would run away from meeting new people, now she is happy to greet her human friends at the park and eats up the attention.
Brielle loves to run! Her daily routine includes one to two 30+ minute walks with 1-2 visits to different dog parks each day. On her doggy activity tracker, she averages 20-30k steps! She loves to sniff around the Baltimore harbor. After a nice outing, she's always pooped! We continue to work on leash manners and basic commands.
As for beagle characteristics, she will bark at the dog park or when she sees a squirrel or creature outside. She rarely barks when she sees things through the front window of the house. She exhibits little separation anxiety when we leave the house. She is a talented and determined hunter. She does know her name and will come when called.
Brielle is a great girl and will be at adoption day. She tends to be more reserved and less outgoing at events, so she doesn't show her true personality. However, with each event, she gets more confident!
UPDATE - 10 JANUARY 2023: Brielle continues to be an excellent addition to her foster family. Her confidence has grown tremendously over the past few weeks. Noises and situations that would cause fear, traffic, construction and noises in the neighborhood do not bother her now. She has been walking well in the neighborhood, and we continue to work on our leash manners, as there are so many good things to sniff in the city. Brielle does excellent meeting other dogs on leash. Before, she used to shy away when we approached someone walking up the street. Now, she's happy to say hello. She has also become more confident approaching people at the dog park. She prefers that people she doesn't know not stand over her as it seems to spook her. Coming down to her eye level helps lower her anxiety. Brielle has been working with our dog trainer weekly. Seeing her work with other individuals makes us confident that she'd be comfortable getting used to new people and trusting them.
Brielle has quite a nose and loves to hunt all types of critters. Her hunting ability is quite impressive; she reacts to squirrels, birds, etc. Brielle would do well in a home by herself or with other dogs. She plays well with her foster sister. They love to run at the park and play in the backyard. They have a good relationship. Brielle also does well with her foster brother, who is a bit older. She loves to give him kisses. She does exhibit resource guarding when enjoying a treat. She also protects her sleeping spot and area but sleeps fine on the human bed with her furry bedmates. Because of her desire to hunt, Brielle has a complex relationship with our cat. A feline-free home may be the best place for her to thrive. She is a young pup and does have energy. Spending 1-2 hours a day allowing her to run with walks is the best routine for her. Once exercised, she is calm indoors and often turns in early at night. She loves to bark at the park but rarely barks indoors or at the house's front window. She also does well when we leave the house. We continue to work on house training. We have found that the best success is to join her in the backyard first thing in the morning to allow her to do her business. She's also learned that there are squirrels are in the backyard, so she likes multiple trips to the backyard to investigate, which has helped lessen accidents.
UPDATE - 6 DECEMBER 2022: Brielle continues to be an excellent addition to our family. She has become even more confident in the past few weeks. She now walks well in busy or loud areas without any issues. She walks well both independently as well as with her siblings. She's become a bit more adventurous on the leash and loves to hunt and chase squirrels. Brielle is also becoming more open with other individuals and will approach them and allow them to pet her. She used to be nervous and apprehensive when we were passing out treats. Now she confidently sits and waits for her goodies with ease. We take daily trips to the dog park for an hour of playtime. She loves to run and chase other dogs fetching their toys. She also likes to bark and chase dogs on the other side of the fence at the dog park. Aside from occasionally barking at the dog park, she is quiet indoors and doesn't exhibit separation anxiety when we leave the house. Brielle has done well with housetraining and has only had a few accidents indoors.
Brielle knows her name and is doing well coming when called. She has also been working on commands and confidence with our dog trainer weekly. If you're looking for a love bug, she's your girl! She loves to run up to us with her tail quickly wagging and say hello. After a busy day of play, she loves to snuggle on the couch or in bed. She'll automatically want to love you if you sit on the floor! She also does well snuggling with her foster siblings. We are still trying to determine what toys she likes to play with. She does like to chew bones on occasion. She exhibits some resource guarding when she has a treat, so supervision is ideal in a home with other pets. Overall, she does great with her furry foster brother and sister. She plays well with her sister. Brielle is getting used to the family cat.
Brielle tends to get overwhelmed with adoption events, so one-on-one visits may be ideal for her, where she can let her personality shine.
NEW - 24 OCTOBER 2022: Brielle came to BREW about a year ago, pregnant, very scared, and without a home. She had her puppies in early November 2021 (all adopted) and stayed in a foster home for 10 months as we worked with her to gain some confidence. She is now in a new foster home where we can work with her further to come out of her shell. Here is an update from her new foster family:
Brielle has been with us for the past four weeks. Upon her arrival, she was unsure and scared. Brielle wasn't sure what to make of her new home – or a new situation. However, as the weeks have passed, she's become more outgoing and confident. She's gotten used to city living and feels more confident approaching pups and people. Brielle has also discovered all the fantastic smells and sights of living in the city.
She walks well on her own or with her foster siblings. Brielle may sometimes pause to take everything in but continues to walk with the support and direction of her pack. She loves to run and use her nose! Brielle prefers to visit a quieter dog park with lots of open space. She thrives when she is comfortable with the pups around her.
As Brielle has gotten used to her foster humans and furry siblings, we've seen more of her personality emerge. She prefers not to be bothered by other pups when sleeping in her den. Brielle is also becoming more comfortable meeting and sniffing dogs. She'll tell them when she wants to be left alone. As a cute little hound, Brielle is also quite the love bug. She enjoys sitting on the couch with us in the evening, snuggling in bed, and giving her humans lots of kisses!
An ideal home and family for Brielle would be patient when dealing with a pup who gets nervous and unsure about new surroundings. She would need a house with a securely fenced-in yard or a family willing to walk her frequently throughout the day. Brielle would need access areas that allow her to play safely and avoid getting loose.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
