About Me
Cecil
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 27 Pounds
UPDATE - 25 JULY 2024: Cecil has assumed the role of guardian in his foster home. When you have insomnia, he will accompany you to the bathroom in the middle of the night, to the kitchen to play solitaire, to the computer room for google searches, then back to the bedroom for sleep. During thunderstorms, Cecil scares the thunder and the lightning away by barking to protect his quaking housemates; he will even sit on foster daddy's head during storms while daddy is sleeping. With a coat of satin, Cecil enjoys you patting him as much as you will. Cecil loves to go on car rides, hikes in the woods, and meeting new people.
UPDATE - 5 JULY 2024: One thing to know about Cecil is that he is a definite team player. When he first came to his foster home, he refused to eat fruit but upon seeing his foster brothers enjoy apple slices so thoroughly, Cecil accepts a piece, holding it gingerly in his mouth and eventually getting it down his gullet. Another way Cecil demonstrates his camaraderie is that his foster brothers are afraid of the doggie door which he himself has mastered. But he will stay outside with the others until a human opens a door. Cecil will also trail behind his foster parents as they police up the yard, sometimes standing near overlooked poop until it gets picked up. Not sure if he is judging us or just trying to be helpful. Cecil is a smart, fun dog who does not enjoy having his picture taken.
UPDATE - 14 JUNE 2024 (from foster family): Cecil Beagle is an ideal housemate: he is kind and courteous to all other residents. He enjoyed his bath, sitting placidly in the tub for his scrub, then again on the mat to be dried off. Cecil is quiet and has had few potty accidents. This precious pumpkin has made himself to home instantly, figuring out the doggy door in a flash. He adores being called "Cupcake," wiggling all over when he hears it. Cecil is a fun walking partner. He might be an ideal candidate for those who have never lived with a beagle before, and he could possibly be a good apartment dog.
Cecil is a super hero snorer and a champion counter surfer. He loves to get kisses on the top of his head or on his snout. If you offer him a food he doesn't like (any fruit or vegetable), he wrinkles his nose and shakes his head "no!" vigorously. Although he does fine with the run of the house when his humans leave, Cecil does not like to be separated from his person by a door or gate, and may go to extraordinary lengths to narrow the gap. This may improve the longer he lives in his foster home. At night, Cecil sleeps in a little doggy bed in the kitchen and he has yet to climb on any furniture. Cecil would probably do OK as an only dog.
UPDATE - 8 JUNE 2024: Cecil came to our Adoption Day today and went off to a foster home! He is nice boy who we will get to know better as he adjusts to living in a house. Stay tuned!
NEW - 24 APRIL 2024: Cecil is a handsome tan and white beagle boy who is friendly and seems to do well with other dogs. He was a stray from a shelter in North Carolina, so his history is unknown. Cecil is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
