About Me
Ramos
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2 Years
Estimated Weight: 38 Pounds
UPDATE - 31 JULY 2025 (from foster mom): I met Ramos at the July 19 Adoption Day. He was such a calm and sweet boy but wasn't getting any attention, likely because he is bigger than the average beagle at 38 pounds and because he was being so chill. And he has been with BREW for a year, I knew I had to foster him. What a great decision that was!! Ramos was happy to get into my yard and run at full speed and chase the other dogs. Knowing Ramos is a fan of water we put out a bin for him to play in. He enjoyed it so much we got him a kiddie pool. Now he uses both, bouncing from one to the other with complete joy.
While Ramos didn’t miss a beat with playing in the yard, he is taking more time to “get comfortable in the house. Many new fosters come in, find their favorite chair and settle in. Ramos won’t get on the furniture. I’ve pulled him onto the chair with me and even brought him up into the bed, but even knowing he can do this, he mostly lounges and sleeps on the floor. It is only in the last few days that he has started to use the dog beds.
I’m not sure why, but Ramos has had no accidents in the house. We make sure the dogs get out often, so he may just be following the other dogs’ lead. He is learning about toys – with some improper choices. He will easily give up the item and accept an approved toy. Mealtimes bring on bouncing and spinning and he is always present when cookies are passed out. He walks nicely on a leash – for the most part. Occasionally, he will see something worthy of chasing and will pull a bit but will quickly settle back into an easy walk. There are five other dogs in the house of varying personalities, and he does well with all of them. However, he is a bit too interested in the resident cats. Finally, he isn’t a barker but will join in when the others get going.
UPDATE - 19 JULY 2025: Good news for this happy boy - he is off to a foster home! Ramos is such a nice boy - very friendly and social. He doesn't seem to have an aggressive bone in his body. We are looking forward to seeing how this sweet boy adjusts to living in a house for the first time. P.S. He loves water and prefers to stick his legs in the water bowl rather than drink! Silly boy!
UPDATE - 17 MAY 2025: We have now had Ramos for over a year! He just turned 2 years old. This young boy has been growing up at the kennels and is still looking for a foster or permanent home. He came to today's Adoption Day and did very well. He is a sweet boy - a little bigger than the average beagle (probably has some foxhound or something in him), but he was manageable on a leash. As part of his coloring, he has a beautiful heart on his left side (see picture). He just wants someone to love him! Ramos will make a wonderful pet for a family who is willing to take the time needed to train him and give him the exercise he needs to rein in some of his young energy.
UPDATE - 10 AUGUST 2024: What a silly boy! This youngster has now joined us for a couple of Adoption Days, and he has had a blast! He is definitely young and has the energy to prove it! Ramos is a tall boy - probably has some foxhound or something in him. We discovered that Ramos thinks a big bowl of water is a swimming pool! He is silly and will make a wonderful family pet once he has some training. Ramos is still available for fostering or adoption.
UPDATE - 30 MAY 2024: Ramos is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 12 May 2024: This handsome guy is Ramos. He is a beagle mix who is friendly, playful and gets along great with other dogs. He’s slightly taller than your average beagle (maybe some hound in there), but not too much taller. He was a stray, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
