About Me
Reggie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2 Years (EST DOB 9/9/2023)
Estimated Weight: 22 Pounds
UPDATE - 16 JUNE 2026 (from foster mom): Reggie continues to make progress towards being comfortable with the world, or at least our little corner of it. Unless frightened, he does not pee in the house. He will come in the house voluntarily (although he made need multiple approaches to do it) if I leave the door open. He will even scratch at the door when he wants to come in if it is closed. However, if it’s not his idea, I have to pick him up and carry him in still.
Reggie does much more exploring and less just sitting in the backyard and the house, although he does have his favorite spots. Don’t we all. He gets excited when it’s time for food, which is new. Much more readily accepts treats. Really loves “loves”… ear and head scritches, under the chin, belly rubs. Life is good then.
I did learn the other night that I am not as scary as a thunderstorm when all of a sudden he was pressed up against me on the couch.
I have not started him on walking on a leash yet, but this evening when I was walking around on the paths in our backyard, he was actually walking with me, which is a big step. Right now taking him for a walk on a leash would be like walking a 21 pound rock!
He’s a good boy.
UPDATE - 3 JUNE 2026: Poor little timid Reggie had to change foster homes, but he is now settled in at a new foster home and trying to figure out what is happening. The world is still a a very scary place for him. Here is an initial report from his new foster mom:
Reggie has now been with me for four days. He is VERY timid and when unsure (which is often) turns into a rag doll. When given the options of fight, flight or freeze, he always chooses freeze. He loves his dog bed and is currently sound asleep and softly snoring. That’s the only sound he’s made thus far. He does not walk on a leash, but I’m not pushing it yet. He has started taking treats from my hand, and when we are outside, he will approach me for loves. Several grandchildren were here Sunday for about an hour, and he seemed to enjoy the head scritches and belly rubs from them. He pees in his crate every night, but, again, some things take time. He is not an explorer yet, but he is showing more interest in what’s going around him.
Sweet boy, but he needs time to feel safe in the world.
UPDATE - 16 MAY 2026: Our shy little Reggie went off to a foster home today, so we will be learning more about his soon!
NEW - 28 FEBRUARY 2026: Reggie is a cute beagle boy who is a little timid but friendly and good with other dogs. He came to BREW as a stray a from a shelter that was shut down in North Carolina. Reggie tested positive for heartworms when we got him, so he needed to go through treatment before being available. He has now completed his heartworm treatment and restricted activity period and is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
