About Me
-
UPDATE - 18 MAY 2019: Gizmo's foster family was not able to keep her any longer, so she is now in a new foster home. She seems to be doing very well now that she is in a home with other dogs. Gizzy joined as at the adoption event today. What a cutie! She is an adorable little girl who loved everyone! She looks more like a dachshund than a beagle, but she is hoping that will not keep her from finding her forever home. Check out the picture of Gizzy at the adoption event when she decided to "hang out" on her new foster mom's leg. UPDATE - 10 MARCH 2019: A good nickname for this pup could be "Shadow": She's hard to see in the dark, follows us closely, and can be so stealthy you won't know she's right underfoot. Probably the best attribute we've noticed about her since we took her in a week ago is her affectionate nature. She can be very generous with kisses. Also, it is very sweet when she hops into your lap and nuzzles your hand for pets; the dachshund in her makes her a great size for lap cuddles. Another fun trait is that she will fetch a toy bone when you throw it! Although she can settle down and nap quietly, she really loves company; she is definitely not happy to be crated while she knows people are around. She does settle down after a while when she is crated for bedtime, but it is clearly not her preference. She is very well behaved at night if she is not crated. She is a bit terrified of our kitten, who was not happy to have competition for our affection; I'm guessing Gizmo would be content with a well-adjusted cat since she hasn't been aggressive towards ours at all. She does have a bit of watchdog in her, and will perk up and alert you if she hears something. She's very good as far as housetraining goes, with no accidents in her crate or in the house. She has kept her crate clean when we're gone during the workday, but, again, her desire for companionship means it would probably be better if she found a family who could give her some attention during the day. She takes care of her potty business within a few minutes of going outside and seems to know the drill. NEW - 31 JANUARY 2019: Gizzy, aka Gizmo, is a 4-5-year-old beagle/dachshund mix who is friendly and good with other dogs. She’s the mom to Tinks, and they were both given up because their family could no longer care for them. She is used to being in the house and said to be house trained (she will probably need some re-training). She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
