About Me
Meet Alanna
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 29 Pounds
NOTE: Can be noisy, so not recommended for an apartment/condo; can be an escape artist.
UPDATE - 17 JULY 2022 (from foster mom): Alanna is a super cute, super sweet beagle. She can be a little bit of a loudmouth, and she has that beagle arrooo! When she first came to my house she jumped off of my deck twice into my neighbor’s yard and escaped over their 3 foot fence in the back. She has not attempted that since (that was back in September) but she is not allowed on the deck unsupervised.
Alanna is not food aggressive, but she will let the other beagles know that she doesn’t care to share her meals with them. She loves treats! If she hears treats coming out, she will automatically appear. She takes the treats gently.
She is mostly house trained but will pee on pee pads in the house sometimes. She doesn’t always like to go out back if it is raining too hard or too cold or too hot. She really likes walks and would probably be better with her house training if I walked her more.
Alanna really is a sweet dog and would probably do well as an only dog or with other dogs. She is playful but can also be independent. She loves to be petted, and she does this thing where she presses her head into me wanting more pets and then will flop over on me. She really is super cute and super sweet but may not be good for an apartment or townhome because of her mouth (although I live in a townhome and my neighbor has not complained to me at all.) She can’t wait to meet her furever family!
UPDATE - 25 SEPTEMBER 2021: Hi! My name is Alanna but they call me lana banana! I don’t respond to either, so it doesn’t really matter… I do respond to treats though! Except for when I have escaped and am running through the neighborhood! Yep! I am a little escape artist! I’m a little lover, but any chance I get to run… I take it! I have jumped off of the deck twice to get a little freedom romp in… (once was unattended, the other time it only took me 2 seconds to get up on the rail and jump over to the neighbor’s shed). The neighbor’s back fence is only 4 feet tall, so I got over it no problem! Foster mom is trying to keep grass growing in the back yard so she puts up a 2 ½ feet fence to protect the grass in certain areas. I sail over that just for fun!!!
I love food, but I am a slow eater. Some of my foster siblings eat really fast and after losing my meals a couple of times to them, I let them know that they were no longer allowed to bully me! I wasn’t mean or aggressive, I just gave them a stern growl. I LOVE treats and I take them really gently. I will jump up for treats, but I don’t weigh that much, so I have never caused any harm by jumping up. Talking about jumping up… I love to steal things off of counters or any other place that I shouldn’t be able to reach.
I love playing with my foster siblings, but I’m not sure if I need to have another dog in the house with me or not… I am pretty independent and I like my foster mom, but I’m always up for a game of bite the face or chase! I LOVE to play. I am semi-high energy. They estimate my age to be about 2 years old. That seems about right… I like to take naps and sleep in comfy places like foster mom’s bed with my head on her pillow.
I’m not completely house trained. I will potty outside, but the outside is for playing!!! I can’t always waste my time out there to potty when a good game of zoomies is going on!
Am I the right dog for you??? I sure hope so, but my foster mom said that I need to let you know that I need a really secure yard or leash walks. Oh yeah, and I can be a bit of a loud mouth! I love to yell out my silly high pitched arroooo when playing or when foster mom comes home or when someone is walking by or when a leaf is blowing in the air.
UPDATE - 4 SEPTEMBER 2021: Alanna is now in a foster home, so we will be learning more about her soon!
NEW - 17 AUGUST 2021: Alanna is a 2-year-old beagle girl with a dash of hound. She’s slightly taller than your average beagle. She was an owner surrender who gave her up because they had too many dogs. She was turned in to the Amelia Animal Shelter in Virginia. She’s people and dog friendly, and she walks well on a leash. She is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
