About Me
Meet Annie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 8-9 Months
Estimated Weight: 23 Pounds
UPDATE - 16 FEBRUARY 2022 (from foster mom): Annie is a wonderful little girl who is eager to please and quickly learning how to be a well-behaved puppy. She is now housetrained to a doggie door with no accidents. She LOVES to play tug of war, bitey-face, zoomie-chase, and wrestle with her foster siblings. She has learned to respect the other dogs' cues for when play-time is over. She then either cuddles for a nap or entertains herself with chewy toys. Annie's favorite place is snuggling in your lap and giving you lots of kisses. She is very people oriented. She is ready to thrive in a home where she can continue to learn and be spoiled.
UPDATE - 23 JANUARY 2022: Annie is now in a new foster home and doing great! She is very much a puppy but is learning the ropes very quickly. The resident dogs are a huge help teaching her boundaries and housetraining. She is tiring, but manageable, and all are sleeping very soundly at night when she finally winds down. She is sooo adorable which is her saving grace!
Annie will require an active family. She would be best as either an only dog, or the other dogs in the family must match her energy level - she is 24/7 play, play, play! She has brought some life back into our seniors, but she plays ruff and needs to be monitored closely so she doesn't accidentally hurt the older dogs. She does very well in a crate (sleeps quietly at night). We also use the crate for time-outs when she needs to settle down a notch. She learned the doggie door and is improving with her house training, but she still has occasional accidents when she is too distracted by play to make it outside in time. She's still very chewy and loves toys. Her favorites are the rope toys and nylabones. Puppy rules definitely apply - no shoes or other temptations left lying around.. She is super affectionate and is a huge kisser.
UPDATE - 11 JANUARY 2022 (from foster family): Who wants free kisses?? Annie has plenty to spare! This sweet girl has such a positive, loving attitude that it is impossible not to feel wonderful around her. She is so smart and has warmed to house living easily. She is fun to walk on a leash and will go potty on walks. Housetraining is a work in progress but Annie knows how to use pee pads. She will stay in the crate for short times. Annie is a gorgeous baby who has the It factor working for her. Come see her on adoption day January 15th for a free kiss!
UPDATE - 26 NOVEMBER 2021: Annie is now fully vetted and available for fostering and adoption. She's a cutie!
NEW - 22 NOVEMBER 2021: Annie is a young beagle mix who is a playful little girl. She’s friendly and good with other dogs at the kennels. She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
