About Me
Apple Jacks
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1 Year (Est DOB 5/3/2025)
Estimated Weight: 24 Pounds
UPDATE - 8 JUNE 2026: Apple Jacks has been in foster care for 2 months. He is such a playful guy - he absolutely loves ripping apart balls of packing paper and chewing on antlers and squeaking stuffed animals for hours. His main loves are his people and dog buddies, and of course all food and walks. His sniffing adventures are epic and he absolutely adores zooming around yards. He doesn’t have one at his foster home but he’s had lots of opportunities for fenced in explorations and he definitely would do well with that in his forever home.
‘Jack’ is in heaven when snoozing next to his dog buddy or while splayed over his humans. He loves people so much and begs for pets. He likes kids and other dogs as well. We don’t know how he feels about cats, but he lives with a pet parrot and does not bother her (after being trained not to). Apple Jacks deserves a loving home where he can show off his many talents and love for you.
UPDATE - 18 APRIL 2026 (initial report from foster mom): Apple Jacks (aka ‘Jack’) has been in his foster home for one week. He loves to happily go on long walks with his housemate and smell every fragrance possible. Afterwards, he is down for some serious napping and lounging next to any human he can find. Jack is super friendly and loving, and is good around other dogs.
If there is a piece of paper, cardboard, or paper towel roll around, it will be shredded in short order. He has also developed a taste for books and leather (he is so debonair) so they must be kept out of reach for now. Apple Jacks is still working on his potty training skills. Does he have a face you could love or what?
UPDATE - 11 APRIL 2026: Good news for Apple Jacks - he went to a foster home after today's Adoption Day. Stay tuned as we learn more about this nice boy.
NEW - 23 MARCH 2026: Apple Jacks is a young beagle boy who was surrendered to the Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia by an elderly gentleman who had originally acquired Apple Jacks to hunt. No other information was provided. Apple Jacks is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
