About Me
Meet Aziz
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 27-30 Pounds
UPDATE - 23 JUNE 2023: We’ve barely had Aziz a week and he’s already fitting in with our family so well. He is a heavy velcro lap dog. He loves cuddling with you on your lap, or as close as you’ll let him get to you, and snuggling with some of his new toys during a power nap. He’s so gentle and will delicately paw you for more pets. He walks great on a leash (gets excited about chipmunks and so he’ll pull to go after them, and he’s quite strong), and is happy to meet new people. He accepts and takes treats more carefully than can be expected for a beagle, and has quickly learned to sit to receive more. We’re still working on recall but he typically likes to stay near his humans when we go outside. He has the BEST puppy dog eyes and just looks up at you lovingly all the time.
From what we can tell, he has a moderate to low energy level, with the occasional game of fetch (he picked it up so fast!). He gets the zoomies after baths, but otherwise would like to just cuddle up with you on the couch, or lay in a bed near you while you work. We’re working on both crate training and some separation anxiety issues but he’s doing really well. We think he’d be good with another dog if it’s the right fit (to help with separation anxiety), because he can guard toys sometimes, so something to keep an eye on (also working on that). Overall, he’s been a wonderful addition to our foster family, and we are looking forward to getting to know him more.
UPDATE - 10 JUNE 2023: We are thrilled that Aziz went to a foster home today! This boy has lived in our kennels for a year, and he finally has a chance to show his wonderful self to potential adopters! A first report from his new foster family says he was cuddled up with one of the humans after a very busy day at our Adoption Day today. This sweet boy deserves a loving home with humans who don't care that his burned nose looks a little different.
UPDATE - 13 AUGUST 2022: Now that Aziz has finished his heartworm treatment and mouth surgery, he was able to join us at our adoption event today. What a nice boy! He doesn't care that he looks a little different because of his burned nose. He had a great time and made lots of friends! He hopes there is an adopter out there somewhere who can love him for his personality and not judge him based on the look of his nose. He has the coolest white symbol down his back. We think it is the mark of a survivor!
UPDATE - 8 AUGUST 2022: Aziz is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 13 JUNE 2022: Meet Aziz! If only he could talk, we are sure he would have a story to tell. He has no hair around his lips and a canine tooth that is severely damaged. The dark hairless skin around his mouth is thought to be a burn of some sort. He also had to be treated for heartworms. He is a survivor! Aziz is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. He was a stray from the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
