About Me
Meet Caleb
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 32 Pounds
UPDATE - 4 MAY 2024: Caleb has progressed so far in home living that he, yes! wags his tail! Does not flee in fright when his foster parents approach! Best of all, this precious troubadour has learned to scooch the gate away an inch so that he can make his way onto the human bed with a hopeful look on his face, asking "Is this OK or do you want me to get down?" Cal loves to teacup canter around the backyard, delighting in the sun and the breeze. He loves calming music but eschews loud, violent television which frightens him and sends him trotting around the house for a more placid scene. Cal has a lustrous coat which begs for pets.
UPDATE - 17 MARCH 2024: To know Cal is to love Cal. You should really not continue reading unless you are prepared to fall in love. This boy is a delight to foster: quiet, clean, and has had few accidents. He gets along splendidly with his foster canines. Cal is up for any adventure. The vet deemed him "stoic" and Cal is healthy as a horse and low maintenance. When given new food, Cal gives Peter Sellers vibes: while on the couch he rests his chin on an apple slice as though expecting skin toning. He pulls the green beans out of his bowl and arranges them on the crate floor in a straight line, possibly for dessert but sometimes just for the aesthetic. You can trust him to have run of the house while you go out. Cal is not adverse to being picked up and rocked in the rocking chair, and if you sit beside him on his perch on the couch, he has been known to rest his chin on your leg.
UPDATE - 11 MARCH 2024. Caleb has been living at our kennels for over a year, hoping someone would notice him and give him a second chance. The great news is Caleb has found a foster home! That is a very happy first step for this sweet boy. Here is a quick update from his new foster family:
Caleb is loving living in a house. He enjoys watching television and has figured out how to use the steps to get a comfy place on the couch. Caleb gets along well with his foster brothers and sister; his favorite thing is rocketing around in the backyard, stopping frequently to let the breeze lift his ears. He is a bit nervous around humans so his foster mom and dad will enfold him with love.
UPDATE - 29 JANUARY 2023: Caleb is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 3 JANUARY 2023: Caleb is an older beagle boy who was surrendered with 4 others to the Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia when the owner was facing some sort of legal action. No other background information was provided. Caleb is friendly and fairly low key. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
