About Me
-
UPDATE - 15 SEPTEMBER 2019: Dasher has been living with our kennel manager now for several months and is doing very well with his canine housemates and the doggy door. He does not crate well when left alone at home. Dasher joined us at our adoption event yesterday and was a little overwhelmed. He is timid around strangers. He would do best in a home with a doggy door, fenced back yard, and at least one more social, confident dog. He loves to play with other dogs! We have had Dasher for almost a year, but we want to make sure he goes to a home with another dog to help with his confidence and where he will be given the extra time he needs to adjust. UPDATE - 18 MAY 2019: Dasher was able to join us at the adoption event today. What a handsome beagle! Lots of people were interested, but Dasher is still waiting for his forever home. He did well at the adoption event but was a little uncertain about all the noise and strangers. He is a little bashful, so we think he would do best in a home with a more social, friendly dog. According to his foster mom, Dasher is still not a big fan of being crated, but he is pro at using a doggie door. We know there is a forever home out there somewhere for this beautiful boy. UPDATE - 24 FEBRUARY 2019: Dasher has completed his heartworm treatment and is now available for adoption. He has been staying with our kennel manager in her home. He has been eating well and now weighs about 33 pounds (lots of TLC for this boy!). He does not like being in a crate, but he knows how to use the doggie door. A doggie door and fenced back yard would be ideal for Dasher. Dasher has been sleeping in a dog bed and seems to do fine - no accidents. He has gotten along well with the other dogs in the home. He can be a little shy with strangers and may do best with another dog in the home who is more social and able to help Dasher become more confident. UPDATE - 20 DECEMBER 2018: Dasher has completed his vetting, but he tested heartworm positive, so we will need to treat him for this first before he is available for fostering or adoption. NEW - 15 DECEMBER 2018: Dasher is a handsome 2-year-old beagle boy who is not too confident and needs a little more socialization, but he does well with other dogs. He came in with Dancer as a stray to the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available for fostering or adoption once his vetting has been completed. We estimate his weight to be around 28 pounds, but we will get a more accurate weight from the vet.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
