About Me
Meet Ethel
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-9 Years
Estimated Weight: 27 Pounds
UPDATE - 20 OCTOBER 2023 (from foster family): This sweet baby mama is a darling. Like many baby mamas, she has to be reminded to self care. She's getting lots of encouragement to enjoy the multiple soft beds and plentiful food and reluctantly accepts the first, eagerly the second. She's a very gentle treat eater, hasn't chewed on anything, does not trash rummage, and is excellent in the crate. She gets along great with her beagle foster brother and helps him chase squirrels out of the yard. She's finding her voice, and it's infrequent, but the deep arooo of her people is majestic. She will sometimes sing you the song of her people if she's feeling lonely.
We're working on leash skills (she's progressing well, but is strong and daily walks are clearly a new concept to her), "sit" (excellent progress), and her house training is on point (only one accident on the first day, probably due to stress). She's been great with all the neighborhood doggos we meet our walks (current crush is a big fluffy Samoyed cloud), but unknown around cats and small children. Based on how gentle she is, our guess is she'd do great with both. While she doesn't seem to need everyone to be home all the time, she does get lonely if she's not near her foster brother and/or humans, so she would probably do well as the second or third doggo.
UPDATE - 14 OCTOBER 2023: Good news - Ethel has found a foster home, so she can come out of our kennels and check out life with a family! Stay tuned as we learn more about Ethel.
NEW - 1 FEBRUARY 2023: Ethel is a beagle girl who ended up at the Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia as part of a seizure due to lack of care. She was seized with Caleb, Kilian, Effie and Holt. She is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
