About Me
Meet Fiddles
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 18-20 Pounds
NOTE: Timid; no young children; needs another dog for confidence; needs a fenced back yard.
UPDATE - 14 FEBRUARY 2022: Fiddles continues to improve slowly. He will now come up to me to get some pets as long as the other dogs are there with him or if I slowly walk up to him and talk to him as I approach. He will require a very patient and quiet household. When I have visitors he prefers to go into my room to hide in bed where he can’t see them and when they leave he comes out. Fiddles is very, very shy and timid to the point of being scared of most things. When on walks he needs to be double leashed (one attached to collar and one to a tight harness). He also will need a fenced in yard and at least one very confident dog. More is preferred, but one will be ok as long as it’s a confident friend for him. He gets along very well with all of my dogs and family members' dogs that come to visit. He has a heart murmur that will need to be monitored as he gets older. He is a very very sweet boy that wants to trust, but he just doesn’t know how to, but he tries really hard. In the backyard is when his true personality comes out playing with the other dogs or if he is on a scent. He’s so fun to watch and brings a smile to your face seeing him happy and playing.
UPDATE - 24 OCTOBER 2021 (from foster mom): Fiddles is a very sweet boy, but he is very shy and takes quite awhile to warm up to you. He is completely housebroken and is crate trained. He does not try to steal other dogs' food from them while eating and is not food aggressive at all. He will require at least one other dog in a household due to him seeming to be more of a dog's companion than a human companion. He is starting to come up slowly to me to get pets, but only if another dog is around. It has taken 2 months to get this far. He scares easily with loud noises and sudden movement, so it would be best if there are no small children in the household. When small kids come around him, he prefers to go to a corner on the couch and try to hide in the pillows.
Fiddles definitely has that beagle bark and tracker down. He loves to be on a scent in the backyard, even if he’s just running after another dog. Fiddles will let neighbors know there is a beagle in the yard!
Fiddles still needs more confidence. Progress has been slow, but he has made vast improvements since coming to us 2 months ago.
UPDATE - 10 AUGUST 2021: Fiddles went off to a foster home this week, so stay tuned as we see how this shy boy does as a house dog.
NEW - 31 JULY 2021: Fiddles is a little guy who came to BREW with Dobro. Both had lost a lot of their hair, but we were able to get them the treatment they needed, and now they look great! Little Fiddles is a shy and submissive boy, and he hesitates to approach people, but he is trying to be friendly and does well with other dogs. Fiddles and Dobro were strays from the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so their history is unknown. Fiddles is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
