Fridge
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 29-30 Pounds
UPDATE - 11 OCTOBER 2025: What a difference a little freedom makes! Now that our sweet Fridge is officially done with the "cone of shame" and his post-surgery onesie, his personality is blossoming every single day! He's warming up beautifully and showing us the truly affectionate and happy beagle he is.
We have more fantastic news to share from his vet visit this past Wednesday! Fridge has been fully cleared from his neuter recovery and the pesky ear infection he had when he first came to BREW. He is also officially up-to-date on all his vaccinations and is in great shape to start his new life! For full transparency, our vet noted a minor heart murmur and suggested a consult with a cardiologist down the road, but mentioned it is not an immediate cause for concern.
We've also learned something new about this amazing boy. While we initially felt he would be best with another dog, he has gained so much poise that we are now confident he would do very well as a solo dog in the right home. His needs are simple: a loving human who can provide an outlet for his energy. He is an active chewer, but plenty of toys and chewables keep him perfectly happy and busy! After a good chew session, his absolute favorite thing is TLC, and his specialty is snuggling up in bed.
If you've been looking for a loyal, loving, and gentle friend, Fridge might be the one for you. This sweet boy is healthy, happy, and more than ready to find his forever home!
UPDATE - 8 OCTOBER 2025 (initial report from foster family): Fridge 'Stubby' the Beagle: A Little Patience Unlocks a Lifetime of Cuddles:
Are you looking for a best friend whose love language is curling up right beside you? Then we’d like you to meet Fridge. This handsome, 21-pound beagle boy is the absolute king of cuddles and a profoundly sweet soul, just waiting for a safe space to let his true personality shine. When you first meet Fridge, you’ll notice he’s a bit shy and reserved. He’s a sensitive boy who is still learning that the world can be a kind place. But give him a little time, a soft voice, and a gentle hand, and you’ll witness the most beautiful transformation as he blossoms into the warm, affectionate, and smart companion we know and love.
Fridge’s secret to confidence isn’t a secret at all—it’s a canine companion! He absolutely adores other dogs and relies on them to show him the ropes. In the company of a friendly, confident dog, Fridge’s timidness melts away. He’s a fantastic follower who will joyfully join his doggy mentor for walks, playtime, and, of course, nap time. This little guy, also affectionately known as "Stubby," is already a pro at home life; he’s fully house-trained, knows how to use a dog door, and is a perfect gentleman on the leash. He truly is the ideal sidekick for a household that already has a four-legged leader.
The perfect home for Fridge is a tranquil and patient one, where he can decompress and build trust at his own pace. A calm environment without a lot of new visitors coming and going would be his ideal haven. Because he can be initially fearful, a home with adults only or with quiet, dog-savvy older children would be the best fit. A securely fenced yard is a must so he can explore the world safely and build his bravery one sniff at a time. If you’re an adopter who understands that the deepest bonds are often built on a foundation of trust and patience, you may be Fridge’s perfect person. The reward for your kindness will be immeasurable: a loyal, loving beagle who will fill your home with gentle affection for years to come.
Fridge's Ideal Home Would Have:
A confident, friendly resident dog. This is strongly recommended, as another dog gives him the confidence he needs to thrive.
A home with cats is not recommended. Fridge has a consistent instinct to chase cats, and this behavior has not changed in the last two weeks of observation. A cat-free home would be safest for all.
A quiet and patient atmosphere with a predictable routine.
A securely fenced yard for his safety and enjoyment.
An adopter committed to positive reinforcement to help him continue to build his confidence.
UPDATE - 20 SEPTEMBER 2025: Fridge joined us for our Adoption Day today on his way to his new foster home. The poor guy was very scared and spent quite a bit of time on a volunteer's lap! Sweet! He is now in a foster home with two social beagle buddies, so we will see how he adjusts to this new environment. Stay tuned!
NEW - 19 SEPTEMBER 2025: Fridge is a friendly and social beagle boy who is good with other dogs but easily frightened and intimidated by humans. He has a slight heart murmur but is otherwise healthy. Fridge is fully vetted and heading to a foster home on 9/20/25 where we can see how he adjusts to living in a home.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
