About Me
Meet Gabby
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 24 Pounds
NOTE: Needs a fenced yard; needs another dog in the home.
UPDATE - 26 JULY 2022: Gabby is still waiting for her forever family. Check out this video of silly Gabby having fun with a child: Gabby. Here is an update from her foster mom:
Gabby has become much more confident. She’s a wonderful foster and very social now. She still would do best in a home with another dog and a nice fenced yard. She’s a real snuggle bug and wants to please us when her beagle nose isn’t in overdrive. She loves walks but still needs training with pulling. She wears an apple air tag and hasn’t been on the lam since January. Gabby is funny and playful and is really learning to trust.
UPDATE - 20 JANUARY 2022: Gabby is back from vacation in Florida. She does great traveling in her crate in the car. She missed our fenced backyard at home but got lots of trips to the park and walks around the neighborhood. Gabby is definitely making progress and did lots of socializing with children, adults and dogs of all ages and sizes that were at the dog park. She runs like lightning and has a blast playing and showing off her moves. Gabby has been with us for almost 3 months and has been completely house trained the entire time. She always does her business in the yard or on her walks. She is definitely closer to 2 years of age and has lots of puppy in her. She has lots of energy and likes to chew on toys and bully sticks. She occasionally gets into mischief if she gets bored by grabbing an item that belongs to Mom or Dad. Gabby has become quite a snuggler because she watches her foster sister, Dakota. Sometimes they both get all over Dad and he can’t get up to microwave his coffee! But she does sleep quietly in her crate all night. It has been amazing watching her gain confidence and become such a nice, loving pet. Her furever home will need some patience as she transitions, but the reward will be a cute, fun, active girl!
UPDATE - 8 DECEMBER 2021 (from foster family): We’ve had Gabby for 4 weeks now. She can still be skittish but has made great strides. She’s funny and playful and cute as can be.
She’s house trained, crate trained, has a good appetite and does great on walks now that she’s used to car sounds, etc. She’s great with other dogs but scared of small children. Her timidness would probably result in her bolting in a heartbeat and returning to her stray habits. I double leashed her for the first 7-10 days (martingale collar and harness). And we make sure the storm door is closed.
Gabby will make a great pet and wants to please us. We recommend beagle experienced adopters.
UPDATE - 6 NOVEMBER 2021: Miss Gabby had fun at Beaglefest today and is now off to a foster home. Stay tuned as we see how this pretty girl adjusts to living in a home.
UPDATE - 13 OCTOBER 2021: Gabby is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 18 SEPTEMBER 2021: Gabby is an adorable beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She was a stray at the Culpeper Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
