About Me
Meet Harvest
Status: Fostered
Estimated Ages: 1-2 Years
Estimated Weights: 30 Pounds
UPDATE - 31 MARCH 2022: Harv continues to be a great guy! He loves people and snuggling. He's very calm at home and rarely barks indoors. He does well on walks throughout the city. Occasionally he may get spooked if he hears a strange noise, but for the most part, he's quite content.
He loves to run and show off his agility skills. We now know that Harv is 42% beagle, 18% Australian cattle dog, 4% dachshund, 4% miniature schnauzer, and 4% chihuahua. A special thanks to Cider's parents (Harv's sibling that was adopted) who did a DNA test. Harv loves to chase and chew on balls. He barks at other pups when he wants to play. He romps around a great deal with his foster sister, Journee, at the park, but he is quite relaxed after a long play date. He can get excited when playing, so he needs close supervision.
Harv would do well in a single or multi-dog household. He needs is someone who is home during the day as he does have some separation anxiety. He also needs a home where exercise is a top priority. Harv spends roughly 2-3 hours daily doing a combination of walking in the neighborhood and running at the dog park. With regular exercise, he is quite chill. He’d make a wonderful companion for someone who works from home.
UPDATE - 27 FEBRUARY 2022: What can we say about Harvest, aka Harv? He is a unique beagle mix full of energy, curious, and super friendly. So often, we get questions about what is he? We suspect he might be a mix of a beagle, spaniel, or heeler. Harv gets along well with his foster sister, Shelby, and another BREW dog in our household. He loves to wrestle and play with his foster siblings; however, he loves to snuggle with them on the bed when it's quiet. Harv also loves people and is not shy about introducing himself.
He responds to his name and wants to be part of family activities. Harv loves to entertain himself by tossing stuffed animals in the air or curling up on the couch or bed with you. He seems to be house-trained and is well-adjusted to being socialized in society. Harv has been back with us for a week, and he has only had one accident.
Harv does well on a walk and enjoys being at the dog park. Harv loves the outdoors and can be content staying outside all day. He also loves chasing a tennis ball endlessly. Harv will go out – rain or shine. Anyone interested in him must be aware that they must be devoted to meeting his activity needs and stimulation. On average, we have had to exercise him for at least two hours a day, so he may not be a good fit for a family expecting a laid-back dog. On the other hand, Harv would be suitable for a very active person or family who likes hiking, visiting a dog park, or playing games with a pet. We are trying to work on some obedience training, but he seems to be coming along.
In addition, Harv may have some resource guarding tendencies, so he might need to go to a home without a dog. However, he might be a fit for a multi-dig home, providing that all pets are supervised during feeding or playing with toys. If you can provide this environment for Harv, he will be a blast and an excellent addition to your family.
UPDATE - 14 FEBRUARY 2022: Handsome Harvest was adopted in November 2021, but the family needed to return him to BREW when they discovered they really weren't ready for a younger, active pup. Harvest is now back with his original foster family. Here is an update:
Hello everyone, I’m Harvest, you can call me Harv. I’m a super nice guy! I came to stay with my foster family a few days ago and was told that I'm adjusting well! I get a little nervous when I hear loud noises or something I'm not sure of. Once I'm comfortable, I'm good to go! I love people, especially my foster mom. I have to follow her everywhere she goes, and I’ve volunteered to be her sleeping buddy. I like my foster dad too, but I seem to gravitate to ladies. My foster parents say that I’m such a good boy and handsome. I also don't cause a fuss when it's bathtime. I let my humans clip my nails, brush my teeth, and clean my ears. I'm pretty chill when I get pampered.
I do well on a leash, walking with my foster sister, and seeing other pups while out on my walks. I'm not big on barking (not yet, at least), and I’m a good friend to my foster sister. We like to play and romp in the morning, and then after that, we are well behaved. I also haven’t had a single accident inside the house and haven’t gotten into any mischief either! I enjoy a dental bone every morning and my squeaker toys in the afternoon.
I need a family who loves having a pup and will include me in their daily lives. I LOVE and need lots of attention! I'm not a big fan of being left by myself, so I want humans who work at home to spend time with me during the day and give me company. I also need a home where exercise is a priority. I’m a young guy, so I have energy. I love long walks or a good run at the dog park. My foster folks take me to the park twice a day and let me run for 30-60 minutes to show off my agility skills. They throw in some neighborhood walks too. I’d also love a home where I can snuggle in the human’s bed. I’ve gotten super spoiled at my foster home. I’d do well as a single dog or with furry siblings.
A couple of things that might not work for me are being left alone (I’m a super social guy) and not getting enough attention or exercise. I’m not a crate guy either.
Visit me on adoption day!
UPDATE - 1 NOVEMBER 2021: Harvest (we have started calling him Harv) joined our family over a week ago and is doing well in his new environment. He’s a very loving guy and enjoys snuggling, sleeping in the human’s bed, and playing. Harv is young and does have some energy. We frequent the local dog park at least twice daily so he can have some fun. His signature moves include chasing, chewing sticks, sliding, and rolling on the hills at the park. Once Harv gets his energy out, he’s relaxed and makes himself comfortable for a nap. He gets along well with his foster siblings.
Harv was pretty quiet the first few days with us; now, he seems to be finding his voice. He’s been barking a bit more at the park, and when he sees something he’s unsure of (Halloween costumes). He does pretty well with bathroom habits, but we’ve had a few accidents inside. He’s done very well meeting adults and children. He does very well in the car on both short and long rides. He continues to be pretty easy on a leash and redirects well. Overall, he's a great guy!
NEW - 24 OCTOBER 2021: Harvest and two friends, possibly siblings, came from a kill shelter that was going to euthanize the trio unless BREW stepped in, which we were able to do. Harvest is now in a foster home. Here is an initial report from his foster family:
Harvest came to stay with us over the weekend, and he is just the sweetest, easy-going pup! He adjusted quickly to a new home. He is calm and loves to snuggle. He's walking well on a leash and enjoys frolicking with pups at the dog park. He is very fast and has some impressive agility skills! Harv is very good-natured and gets along well with his foster siblings and other dogs without any issues. He is relatively quiet and has only barked a few times. We are working on improving bathroom habits.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
