About Me
Jackie and Betty (Bonded Pair)
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 8-9 Years
Estimated Weight: 30-32 Pounds
UPDATE - 1 SEPTEMBER 2025: This sweet bonded pair has now been with their foster family for over a year with no one interested! These are two of the sweetest older gals you could ever meet. They each have unique needs, but their foster mom says they have been very easy to foster. Betty has some shaky back legs that do best on a non-slippery surface, but her tail never stops wagging. Jackie needs to be on thyroid meds, but she is otherwise a happy, sometimes mischevious girl. They both love going for walks around the neighborhood. The girls have been to many adoption events, but they keep getting overlooked by potential adopters. If you have a heart for a couple of older beagle gals with special needs, you should meet Jackie and Betty!
UPDATE - 19 JANUARY 2025: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet the beagle version of perfect best friends? Like Laverne & Shirley, Cagney & Lacey, Thelma & Louise, Lucy & Ethel, Mary & Rhoda, Monica and Rachel, and of course, the Golden Girls! Well, that’s Betty and Jackie in a nutshell. They get up to some crazy stuff but always help each other out. Ok, so the craziest thing they do is take all the toys out of the toy box. And they actually never help pick up the mess. But they definitely have each other’s back. And their bond is just so much fun to be around! Both are crate trained and even enjoy snuggling up and sharing crate space. Betty continues to be fully house trained. Jackie has made significant progress and does best when kept to a routine.
Betty continues to manage despite her wobbly gait. She loves the snow and has a blast flopping around. Jackie has lost several pounds and is doing great on her medication. She has transitioned off her special diet and is maintaining a healthy weight on regular food. Both enjoy their outside time and an occasional walk. The walk usually turns out to be more of a parade, as they seem to enjoy showing themselves off around the neighborhood.
These two best friends are the perfect beagle family starter pack! They would make an excellent choice for anyone looking to start a new beagle household or to add on to their current beagle home. Very easy going and fairly low maintenance, these two are destined to spread love and joy wherever they go.
UPDATE - 16 AUGUST 2024 (from foster family): This bonded pair arrived in their foster home and immediately got comfortable. They’ve even adopted the resident beagle into their pack.
Betty has proven to be the pack “mom,” always worrying about where her friends are and what they are up to. Also giving them a reprimanding growl when she senses naughtiness! She does not let her unsteady hind legs slow her down for a second and she is determined to keep up with the pack. (But like most “moms” she also enjoys a little alone time - see photo of her nesting in the ivy!)
Jackie is doing great with her weight management and loves being active. She has a great beagle howl and is very affectionate with people and dogs.
Betty is fully house trained. Jackie appears to have been trained to go on a pad but in 2 short weeks has made a lot of progress going outside only (we are on day 4 accident free!). They both enjoy leash walks and greeting everyone in the neighborhood.
Seeing the amazing special bond these 2 have is heartwarming. They stick by each other no matter what and they light up a room with their adorable tail wagging! We would love to have this foster home a brief stop on their way to a happily ever after!
NEW - 3 AUGUST 2024: Meet two of the sweetest beagle girls! Jackie and Betty ended up with BREW when their owner passed away and no one could take them. They both have special needs. Jackie is very overweight and has a thyroid condition. She is now on medication and will, hopefully, start dropping some pounds. She may need to be on this medication for life. Betty has permanent nerve damage and has trouble with her back legs, probably due to having distemper as a puppy (we don't know). She is not at all bothered by her disability. She loves people, and her tail wags constantly. She does best when she has a floor that her back legs can easily grip so that they don't splay out. We don't think Jackie and Betty are sisters, but they grew up together and need to stay together. The girls just went off to a foster home, so we will be hearing more from their foster family soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
