About Me
- UPDATE - 20 AUGUST 2019: Jellybean (Boo) is a smart, playful and loyal pup. Working to gain his trust wasn't easy, but his sweet nature and his curiosity overcomes his fear in the end. Boo can be vocal, so apartment living isn't for him. This 2 1/2 year old has lots of energy, loves a good hike in the woods, and ideally would be placed with a family in a single-family home with a fenced-in yard. He is still a little skittish, and overcoming his tough start in life takes time. In the few months that we've had him, we have watched him grow more confident, sociable and playful. It's a joy to behold.
- Boo has never been aggressive, even though he likes to bark and fuss when anyone knocks on the door. He's amazingly compliant in the bath and at the vet, and lets you examine his ears and teeth with no issue. His potential for being a great pet is unlimited with the right placement.
- UPDATE - 19 MAY 2019: Jellybean came all the way from PA to join us at the adoption event today. He is cute beagle! There is no doubt he bonds well to his humans. He wasn't sure about strangers but seemed to open up a bit as the day went on. He would occasionally cry if someone he didn't know tried to take him for a walk. He was most comfortable hanging out with his foster mom and dad, so Jellybean's forever family would need to be patient with him while he adjusts to his new humans. Since he can be a little noisy, Jellybean would not do well in an apartment or townhouse, but he would love to settle down in a single family home with a loving, patient family who will give him the time he needs to feel at home again.
- UPDATE - 19 MARCH 2019: Jellybean” or “Boo,” as we call him has thrived in the few weeks we’ve had him. He was quite skittish at first, but has grown more confident and secure. His personality is emerging, and he is a playful, smart, and endearing pup.

When he first came to live with us, he shied away from the harness and leash, and balked at going in and out of doors. Upon sighting the leash, the chase was on as he bolted around the house like his tail was on fire. It was almost comical. Patience and a calm approach have worked wonders with him, and he is eager to get harnessed up as he knows it means good times out of doors, or a walk in the yard to do his business.

The little fella is amazingly compliant while getting bathed and being brushed, or getting his ears and teeth checked. Getting him to take treats directly from our hands was a slow process of gaining his trust. Playing with toys was like learning a new language for him. Now he seeks out play time.As for house training, he has had two accidents in the home, lifting his leg and peeing. The rest of the time, he does his business like the good boy he is – outside. We take him out on a schedule five times a day, and he knows what to do.
-
Having an older, mellow dog at home has given him the role model he needs, and he has become quite fond of Moses. He can be a bit jealous or territorial sometimes when the older dog is getting attention, growling and barking, but never attacking or biting. He is learning to settle down on that score, though.

NEW - 22 FEBRUARY 2019: Jellybean is a 2-year-old neutered male beagle who is fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption. He weighs about 22 pounds. This little fella has had a rough start. He came from a hunt club where they used a shock collar to stop him from shying away from them. He’s still a little nervous but has made great progress since he’s come to BREW. He will come to you and let you pet him. Due to his current lack of confidence, he would probably do best in a home with another dog. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
