About Me
Meet Kailay
Status: Fostered
Estimated Ages: 4-5 Years
Estimated Weights: 24 Pounds
NOTE: Would do best in a home where she is not alone all day - loves human and dog company.
UPDATE - 28 MARCH 2022: A pretty, freckled girl, Kailay is a marvelous hiking companion, and a loving, devoted friend. Her ideal furever home would have a fenced backyard and a male canine buddy who be accepting of her energy. Humans who are experienced and tolerant of separation anxiety preferred. Kailay is a fun, smart dog who you can meet at the BREW adoption day on April 2nd. She will see you then!
UPDATE - 16 MARCH 2022: Kailay loves the great outdoors! She had a blast running around in the Saturday snow last weekend. She loves our walks around the neighborhood and would love to go further. She has a lot of energy and would probably be a great hiking buddy!
UPDATE - 6 MARCH 2022 (from foster mom): Kailay is a sweetheart! She plays with toys, wants to be friends with everyone, and loves long walks. She enjoys sleeping with humans but will also sleep on a dog bed or couch (with or without other dogs or humans). She catches on quickly, learning the doggie door, house training, & daily routines. She’s not afraid of anyone or anything, including men & noises! There is one exception: she doesn’t like being alone. She is getting better about accepting the fact that people leave the house sometimes. We believe what helps is that when I leave after breakfast, she still has 3 dogs & 2 humans in the house with her. After 2 weeks with us, she has become much less anxious when someone leaves. No more wining, just looking around for something to do. She seems to want another dog or human that wants her too. She would be a happy addition to a full and active home!
UPDATE - 21 FEBRUARY 2022: Kailay was adopted in December, but her owner's job situation changed, and Kailay is now back with BREW. She just went to her new foster home, so we need to give her some time to adjust. We will be hearing more from her foster family soon.
UPDATE - 26 NOVEMBER 2021: Whoever said that dogs do not like hugs has not met Kailay! She is a cuddlebug who likes nothing better than rocking in a rocking chair while nestling in your lap. Kale, as her foster family calls her, also enjoys hikes, and will pee and poop while on the leash. Kale has not attempted to go over a 6 foot wooden fence or made any escape efforts so the obvious conclusion is that she jumped the kennel fence in search of her furever family. Kale gets along well with other dogs and likes children but being rushed by a group of little ones scares her as do mean dogs barking on the other side of a fence. With her loving nature, this dog like kale, offers health benefits for your entire being. Do yourself a favor this holiday season and check out Kailay!
UPDATE - 20 NOVEMBER 2021: Wow, Kailay has been at our kennels since May 2021, but she FINALLY found herself a great foster home! She is a very sweet girl who needs a chance to shine. She has been overlooked for too long! We look forward to seeing how this sweet girl adjusts to being a house dog.
UPDATE - 18 JUNE 2021: Kailay is now fully vetted and available for fostering and adoption.
NEW - 14 MAY 2021: Kailay is a very sweet beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She will occasionally climb her kennel chain link fence, and got out once, but we are hoping this will stop once she gets used to her new digs. She came to BREW as a stray from the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She has a cherry eye that we will get fixed. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
