Kiara – Adopted February 2021

Kiara – Adopted February 2021

About Me

Meet Kiara
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3-4 Years
Estimated Weight: 34 Pounds

NOTE: Must have fenced back yard.

UPDATE – 6 FEBRUARY 2021 (from foster mom): Such an elegant young lady! She has long legs and big beautiful eyes! She may have more hound in her than beagle. She is not as vocal as real beagles, she’s actually very quiet. And she can counter-surf! She does love long walks and being outside a lot. A fenced in yard would be nice, or a frequently visited dog park! She seems a bit timid with men, but she will warm up to strangers when given time. She seems low key most of the time but does have times of energy too.

UPDATE – 31 JANUARY 2021: Kiara was adopted but returned to her foster home because she really does like being outside and loves to stretch her legs. She needs a fenced in yard. She does settle down, curled up on the couch🥰. She loves going for walks, playing with toys, and wrestling with her co-foster sister Gabby. Kiara has learned the doggie door – no accidents in the house since! (from her anyway). She’s a very sweet girl!

UPDATE – 9 JANUARY 2021 (from foster home): Kiara is now fully vetted and living in a foster home. Here is what her foster family has to say about this girl with the beautiful eyes: What a long legged beauty! So kind and sweet! We just got her back from the vet where she was spayed & had 9 teeth removed, and we can see how much happier she is! She seems to love being outside more than inside, even though it’s cold today! It looks like she is investigating possible weaknesses in our stockade fence. I’ll let you know if she finds her way out of Fort Knox! She even had no trouble doing her business outside in the rain last week! Yes, she is house trained, asks for the door, but has also learned how to go through the doggie door! So far I have only heard her bark once: deep, big, and brief. So quiet the rest of the time. I think she would like to sleep with us, but the other 3 (+2 humans) fill up the bed first! Time for a king-size!

NEW – 29 NOVEMBER 2020: Kiara is a 3-4-year-old beagle/hound mix, so she’s taller than your average beagle. She’s super sweet, mellow, friendly and good with other dogs. She has beautiful doe eyes! She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.

Questions?

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
