About Me
Libby
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 6-7 Years
Estimated Weight: 19-20 Pounds
NOTE: Likes to dig (need to be careful around the bottom of a fence).
UPDATE - 9 FEBRUARY 2025 (from foster family): Sweetness in a small package! Libby is affectionate and active all while weighing in at just under 20 pounds. After three weeks with her foster family, Libby has embraced the crate routine for both meals and overnight accommodation as well as some daytime downtime. Libby enjoys walks around the neighborhood (1 to 2+ miles is well within her range) and does well on leash. A secure backyard fence is a must for this hound, as she is vigilant in spotting opportunities to escape. Happily, she knows to use the yard for business rather than inside the house. Very food motivated, she will come when enticed by a reward and offers a patient sit for treats (and will take advantage of any food left in her reach.) As for relaxing, Libby seeks out cozy spots that feature the warmth of a sunbeam. She enjoys family company, easily finding a spot on the couch within cuddle’s reach or nearby on her dog bed. Libby had the opportunity recently to spend time with a husky friend and did well; she did not want to play despite his best efforts but was not aggressive and generally at ease.
UPDATE - 18 JANUARY 2025: Great news - Libby found a foster home! Let's see how this happy, energetic girl behaves as she adjusts to living in a home. More soon!
UPDATE - 10 AUGUST 2024: We have a new beauty among our beagle girls - Libby! What a sweet girl! Libby was able to attend her first Adoption Day today, and she did great! We can only bring a few of our many kennel beagles to these events, and it was Libby's turn. She was just as sweet as can be and even did well when a toddler wanted to pet her. She liked attention from people, especially belly rubs, and got along with all the other dogs. She has gorgeous coloring - looks like she has some Blue Tick Beagle in her. Libby made lots of friends but didn't find a foster home or permanent home, so she is back at our kennels. Maybe next time, girl!
NEW - 22 JUNE 2024: Libby is a friendly beagle girl who was a stray at the Buckingham Animal Shelter in Virginia. Her history is unknown. Miss Libby is fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
