About Me
Meet Loki
Status: Fostered Estimated Age: 3-4 Years Estimated Weight: 31 Pounds NOTE: Extremely timid. Needed surgery to remove his front left leg (cancer prevention). UPDATE - 13 APRIL 2023 (from foster family): Loki is a very special, shy boy who has needed a lot of time and patience getting used to humans. Loki has been working on his confidence with our beagle pack over the past five months. Since having him in our home, he’s been successfully potty trained and can eat with the humans near him and even out of their hands! He loves treats and dental sticks and takes them ever so gently out of our hands. He truly is a sweetheart. We haven’t heard him bark (or even growl) but sometimes he “boofs” in his sleep, and it’s absolutely adorable. We can’t wait to hear his big boy beagle bay when he is confident enough to share it with us. He loves to explore at night when everyone is sleeping. He’ll find toys or shoes and take them back to bed with him, and we’ll wake up the next day with a little beagle hoard of toys and shoes as he looks at us like, “who did that?” Lately, he’s been having good dreams, as he lays on his back wagging his tail during his multiple daily naps. He can ‘boof’ and wag so much so sometimes that it wakes him up! He’s gotten more confident with our two pups but has a ways to go, and we think he would do great with another dog. His fur is so soft and his colorings are so beautiful. He also loves wearing sweaters; he’s so fashionable! As a tripawd, we don’t think this will slow him down at all. He walks great on a leash and has gotten to enjoy sniffing on our walks in the neighborhood. He is still a little nervous about meeting new dogs, but has never shown any signs of aggression. UPDATE - 22 OCTOBER 2022: Good news for Loki - he found himself a wonderful foster home where he can start to learn what it means to trust humans and come out of his shell. We look forward to hearing more from his new foster family as he adjusts to living in a home for the first time. NEW - 27 AUGUST 2022: Loki is an extremely shy boy who needs a lot of time, patience and consistency. We have had Loki for over a year, but we wanted to work on his confidence at the kennels before making him available. For the first several months we had Loki, he would hide in the back of the kennel, not eat, and seemed terrified of humans. Over the last few months, he has made progress and will now go out in the play area and seems more comfortable with our kennel manager. We successfully treated him for heartworms. He has never shown any aggression. Loki is fully vetted and available for adoption, but we would like him to go to an experienced foster home first to further work on his confidence. The foster home should have a fenced yard and a social/confident dog for companionship. .Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
