About Me
Martin
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 4 Years
Estimated Weight: 25 Pounds
UPDATE - 3 JULY 2025 (from foster family): Martin is an exceptionally happy and confident Beagle, overflowing with love and affection for everyone he meets. After two weeks in foster care, he's clearly thrilled to finally be in a home, readily matching your energy whether you're looking for playful bursts or a quiet nap. While his background remains a mystery, it's clear he is deeply in need of a loving home and is more than willing to bring boundless love into your life. He's fully house-trained, though he might occasionally try to get away with being a typical stubborn Beagle, quickly understanding when he's in the wrong. Martin handles alone time well after an initial adjustment and sleeps soundly through the night. His gentle nature shines through in his interactions with kids, and he's been an absolute joy with other dogs, even forming a rare bond with our less social Beagle. He's also adapting well to living with a cat, but was anxious at first. On walks, he's a polite companion who loves to greet everyone, walks much faster than our sniffy boys, and he's a calm passenger in the car. Martin is food motivated and eager to please, though he's still learning not to jump up in his enthusiasm to give love. He's surprisingly good with grooming, a trait his foster parents wish their own Beagles shared! Martin truly thrives on human connection and will soak up all the attention you're willing to give. It's honestly hard not to keep him because of how sweet, loyal, and attached he becomes with everyone who meets him. Based on his adaptable and loving nature, Martin would flourish in virtually any household that can provide him with the consistent love and attention he so deeply deserves and needs. He's a wonderful addition who will bring immense joy and affection to his forever family.
UPDATE - 21 JUNE 2025: This silly boy attending our Adoption Day today on his way to a foster home. He is so friendly and now has a couple of resident beagle buddies to show him how to be a house dog. Stay tuned as we learn more about this very social boy!
UPDATE - 26 APRIL 2025: Martin joined us at today's adoption event and had a great time with all the other dogs and people! He is a very silly and energetic boy who needs some training to rein in his energy, but he is very social and very fun. He bounced around all day but finally tired out towards the end of the event. He will need a foster or permanent home who loves a high-energy pup! Martin is still available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 20 APRIL 2025: Martin is a silly beagle boy who is friendly and good with other dogs. He was a stray from the Madison County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
