About Me
- UPDATE - 19 AUGUST 2019: Maui has been with us for almost 6 months, and he is the perfect houseguest. He is a very laid back guy who just requires lots of belly rubs. He loves his humans, and he is a great brother to his foster sisters. He enjoys hanging out in the back yard with them. He will bark when he sees other dogs but is usually a quiet guy. He is food motivated, and he loves apples and carrots, which he gets in place of treats. To him, they are treats. Maui is a gentle soul who just wants to be loved. He does have some heart issues but he is on meds - you would never know to see him as he is very active. As much as Maui is a wonderful houseguest, he does deserve a home of his own with people who love him as we do.
- UPDATE - 27 JANUARY 2019: Hey everyone, it’s me, Maui. I know it’s been awhile so I thought I’d let you know how I’m doing here in my foster home. It’s been great. We had a nice Christmas and foster mom was very impressed that I didn’t try to potty on the tree. Really mom??? I know better than that. All my business is done outside.
- I have been a very good boy. I now have run of the house and only go into my crate when I want to, not because I have to. I like to follow my foster dad. He is my buddy. He calls me his shadow. Guess that is a good thing. I only bark when I see something outside or my foster sisters bark. I’m a pretty quiet guy. And I still love my belly rubs!
-
My foster sisters are fun to have around. Buttercup and I play in the yard and I help Violet track rabbits. That’s not as much fun as playing. As much as I am having fun here, what I really would like is a home of my own. I know my forever home is out there. If you meet me, I know you will just fall in love with me. I’m that kind of a guy.
UPDATE - 23 OCTOBER 2018: Hey there, I’m Maui. And I just have to tell you that I love being in a home!! I have been with my foster family for over a week. I have a real cool Mom and Dad and 2 awesome sisters. I have several warm and comfy beds to choose from. Or on occasion, I may curl up on a chair. I get 2 meals a day and a yard to run around in. Life is good!! Especially when I get belly rubs, which I ask for often. I will roll over on my side or back and Mom will rub my belly. She thinks it’s cute. My Mom says that I am a good boy. I do all my business outside and I keep my crate clean and dry during the day. I enjoy running in the yard with my sister. And we like to play and rough house. It’s so much fun. Now don’t get me wrong, I really like it here. But what would really be even better is if I had a forever home of my own. That would make my life perfect. So if you are looking for a fun loving, easy going good boy, check me out. I won’t disappoint.
UPDATE - 13 OCTOBER 2018: Maui joined us at the adoption event on his way to a new foster home. What a sweet boy! His favorite thing to do was to walk up to everyone and flip to his back for a belly rub. This boy LOVES belly rubs! He may be housebroken as he never went to the bathroom until he went outside. Stay tuned as we learn more about this boy from his new foster family.NEW - 8 OCTOBER 2018: Maui is a 6-year-old neutered male beagle/basset mix who is friendly and good with most dogs. He weighs about 32 pounds. He has a heart murmur, but you wouldn’t know it by his activity level. The vet says he can still have a long, healthy life. He was a stray from Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
