About Me
Moana
Status: Living at our private kennel
Estimated Age: 3-4 Years (Est DOB 6/18/22)
Estimated Weight: 24 Pounds
UPDATE - 1 APRIL 2026: Here is an update from our kennel manager on how Moana is doing at the kennels:
She is doing fine, a little timid. No resource aggression that I've seen. No altercations of any kind. Oddly, if I am inside the building, she goes outside; when I am outside, she goes inside. I think the aggression at her adopters home was due to fear. If she was indoors, she may have resorted to fight vs flight because she felt trapped.
UPDATE- 13 Jan 20026: Moana was adopted by a nice family with other dogs, but we discovered she was a resource guarder and needed to be returned to BREW. She can be possessive of both her people and her things, so she will need to be fostered or adopted by someone with experience working with a resource-protective pup. Moana is back at the kennels. She is timid but seems to be doing well with the other kennel dogs and her kennel mates.
UPDATE - 19 JULY 25: This little blue tick beauty joined us at today's Adoption Day, and she showed us all how much she loves affection from humans! She apparently can be noisy at the kennels (maybe the other dogs get her going?), but she was quiet at the event. She LOVES getting pets from humans and will place her paws on people's thigh to make sure their hands can reach her head for a perfect head rub and scratch. She is absolutely adorable! Moana is still available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 1 JULY 2025: This gorgeous girl is loud and proud! Check out those beautiful colors! Moana is very friendly, playful and good with other dogs. She was a stray at the Cumberland Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. Moana is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
