UPDATE - 2 SEPTEMBER 2023: Mystique is still looking for her forever home. The poor girl has some allergies, but we are working on helping her get some relief. She is coming along with her leash training. She can be a little stubborn when she wants things her way but is very intelligent (true to hound nature). Once she understands what you expect from her, the training "sticks". Mystique is a sweet, gentle, calm, loving girl who is fairly quiet and gets along with all the other dogs in the home.
UPDATE - 1 JULY 2023: Mystique is thriving in her foster home. She's a happy, confident, outgoing girl that loves everyone she meets. At an adoption event, she was a social butterfly and was comfortable around kids. We feel that she has lived in a home previously, because she was immediately comfortable indoors. She is crate trained and housetrained to a doggie door. She is very quiet, with a gentle personality. If you need a prancy princess brimming with unconditional love, Mystique is the girl for you!
She will be available after her dental scheduled on 7/11.
UPDATE - 10 JUNE 2023: This gorgeous girl attended our Adoption Day today and is off to a foster home! She is a larger, very elegant lady who is very friendly and well-behaved. She did great at the event! Stay tuned as we see how she adjusts to be a pet at her new foster home.
NEW - 25 FEBRUARY 2023: Missy Mystique is a fox hound mix who decided to befriend the beagles of BREW and make herself adoptable through us. She's friendly, fairly quiet, low key and does well with other dogs. She was a stray from Powhatan Animal Shelter in Virginia and is available for fostering or adoption.

Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
