About Me
Niko
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1-1.5 Years (born January 2024)
Estimated Weight: 26 Pounds
UPDATE - 1 MAY 2025: After being with BREW for almost a year, and growing up in the kennels, our handsome boy Niko has found a foster home! We are very excited that Niko finally has a chance to show that he, too, can be a great pet for some family! So far, Niko seems to be fitting in well with the resident beagles. Stay tuned as we see how this young boy adjusts to living in a house.
UPDATE - 25 DECEMBER 2024: Well, it turns out Niko has the energy of a typical 1-year-old. He is a fairly calm boy at the kennels and at adoption events, but his young energy emerged when he found himself living in a home for the first time. He had a little too much energy for his foster brother, who is an older dog, so Niko had to be returned to the kennels. Hang in there, buddy!
UPDATE - 7 DECEMBER 2024: Niko joined us at our Adoption Day today and found himself a foster home! We are thrilled that he won't be spending his first birthday at the kennels. For a youngin', this boy seems very chill and quiet. He is very sweet and social, so we look forward to seeing if he has a hidden devil boy in him somewhere. Maybe not! Stay tuned as we see how Niko does in a foster home.
UPDATE - 4 DECEMBER 2024: Young Niko has been growing up at our kennels. He is a friendly and playful young beagle mix boy who knows how to use the doggie door at the kennels. We would love to see this nice boy find a foster or permanent home where he can learn how to be someone's loving pet. Come meet Niko at our December Adoption Day!
UPDATE - 8 JUNE 2024: Niko joined us for an Adoption Day today. He was very nervous to start, but his tail was wagging up a storm by the time the event ended. He is a sweet puppy boy who just needs some time to adjust to life with human love. Niko is still looking for a foster or permanent home.
NEW - 26 MAY 2024: Niko (on the left) is a beagle mix puppy who, based on running a DNA test, is 52% beagle, 27% American Foxhound, and 21% "other." This cute guy is friendly but could use more socialization and training. He was an owner surrender to the Lunenburg Animal Shelter in Virginia due to the owner’s illness and having 60 dogs that needed placement (BREW got three of them, including Niko and his two sisters, Marah and Anjali). No other information was provided. Niko is available for fostering or adoption. His sisters will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
