About Me
Meet Oshie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 29 Pounds
NOTE: Fence climber.
UPDATE - 2 SEPTEMBER 2025: Oshie has now been with her foster family for 3 weeks and is adjusting well to life in the big city (Washington DC)! Here is an update from her foster mom:
We’ve witnessed so much progress in Oshie during the 3 weeks we have had her. She’s finally coming to me when called and now walks out of the apartment freely to the hall without needing to be being pulled on her leash. She likes to play and wrestle and is very acrobatic - she flips and all. She now jumps up on the couch on her own and snuggles my neck. Great strides in three weeks!
Oshie must be walked on a leash to pee (fence climber), and it can sometimes take 30-60 minutes. She is curious when outside, with her head on a swivel, so potty breaks can take a while. This girl expects an adventure when she gets outside. We tried a longer leash, hoping she could do zoomies, but she mostly just enjoys having additional leash length to zigzag and explore.
We believe Oshie would be much happier with another fur companion in her home, since she can’t go to dog parks to run and must be exercised on a leash (and that’s very real - cannot stress enough). She’d love that wrestle time with a fur brother or sister. She loves ALL dogs and has not met one that she walks away from. We have a 95 pound Golden Lab neighbor who has become her primary wrestling buddy, and she wears him down! She is strong. Oshie draws attention everywhere we go and would do well in an apartment or single family home.
UPDATE - 10 AUGUST 2025: Great news for Oshie - she is off to a foster home today!!! This sweet girl has been waiting a long time! Let's see how she adjusts to living in an apartment after spending a good part of her life living at our kennels. Since she is a fence climber, she will get lots of practice walking on a leash.
UPDATE - 21 JUNE 2025: Our beautiful Oshie has now been with BREW, living at the kennels, for over a year. She has come a long way and is just as sweet as can be. Her only issue is that she is a fence climber, so she needs to go to a home where she will be exercised on a leash. She is quiet and calm. She came to the Adoption Day today and did well on a leash (it was a hot day!). She can be timid to start, but she seemed very content and social at today's event. We know there is a family out there for Oshie, so let's not see this girl spend another year at the kennels!
UPDATE - 25 JANUARY 2025: Oshie has been with BREW for almost a year! This girl is beautiful and is still looking for a foster home or permanent home. She is good at escaping over a chain link fence, so leash walking would be ideal for Oshie. She is very quiet, so she would probably do well in an apartment. Oshie came to today's Adoption Day, and we have all noticed a wonderful transformation. Oshie came to BREW very bashful and shy, but she was very social and happy at today's event. She did great! We hope she will be welcomed into a home soon! She has been waiting too long!
UPDATE - 19 OCTOBER 2024: Oshie attended another Adoption Day today, but she had to return to the kennels when she wasn't able to find a foster or permanent home. Oshie is a shy girl and unsure of what is happening when there is a lot going on. She did okay at the event and would let gentle human hands pet her and give her neck scritches. Oshie has been at the kennels for about 8 months, so we hope to at least find her a foster home soon.
UPDATE - 8 JUNE 2024: Oshie had a chance to join us at our Adoption Day today. She was a little overwhelmed with all the activity and kept her little tail between her legs most of the day. She was most comfortable when in a pack of other dogs, so we think she needs to be in a home where there is one or more social dogs who can help her with her confidence. She will need extra time and patience to grow comfortable living with humans. Young children and loud noises might scare her. She is a gorgeous, taller girl with very soft fur. Oshie is still looking for a foster or permanent home.
NEW - 3 MARCH 2024: Oshie is a shy girl who is slightly taller than your average beagle. She is good with other dogs. She was a stray, so her history is unknown. Oshie is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
