About Me
Meet Redford
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: ~1 Year
Estimated Weight: 17 Pounds
UPDATE - 30 SEPTEMBER 2022 (from foster mom): Redford is doing SOOOO WELL!!!! He is ready for a family. He is having no issues and has been a complete joy! He is still a little timid, but he is really happy being in a family. He is doing really well with house training. No poop accidents ever. Some marking. He is not a barker at all. He walks GREAT on any leash. He just needs someone to go slow with him, but he wants to be loved and love back!!!!
UPDATE - 19 SEPTEMBER 2022: Little Redford was able to join us at the Adoption Day on the 17th and did very well! He was a little apprehensive to start, but then he warmed up to the event and trotted around all afternoon with his tail up. He let people pet him and recovered quickly when he got spooked by something (e.g., loud cars). He loved being with the other dogs. The good news is he is now in a foster home where we can learn more about this little guy. Here is an initial report from his new foster family:
Redford “Red” is an adorable, shy little liver colored Beagle. Red is very timid and nervous/scared. He definitely needs time to build up trust, but as that develops you could not ask for a more loving little boy. Red will lay with his people and enjoy some belly rubs. He loves some wet food mixed in with his dry kibbles. He really enjoys chicken, liverwurst, and cheese. He does well walking on his leash. A fenced yard would be great for Red, but it is not a requirement as long as you have a long leash to allow him to run a bit each day. He likes to be where the people are but lays quietly and rarely barks in his kennel. Red would do well in a home with other pets. He loves his doggie siblings and even enjoys interacting with his cat siblings. He is doing well on potty training and only had a few accidents. Overall, Red is not aggressive. If he becomes scared, he may nip when you try to pick him up. Red needs a family that will take the time to build trust with him. A family that is generally a little calmer would be a perfect fit.
UPDATE - 11 SEPTEMBER 2022: Redford is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption. Our kennel manager said he wasn't too happy to go to the vet (fearful - nipped at the vet tech), but he seems to be doing well with the other dogs at the kennels and has not shown any aggression towards other humans. He is just a scared little guy!
NEW - 27 AUGUST 2022: Redford is a small, liver-colored beagle boy who is a little on the shy side. He needs some patience, socialization and time to build his confidence. He would do best with a family who has some experience working with timid dogs. He would also benefit from having a more social dog in the home who can help Redford with his confidence. Redford came to BREW as a stray from the Abingdon Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
