Estimated Weight: Estimated adult weight 40-45 Pounds
UPDATE - 17 JULY 2022 (from foster mom); Reese’s is a super sweet big beagle. Even though she doesn’t look too much like a beagle, she is still super cute and has some of the beagle traits. She is tall and lanky. I still can’t believe how much she has grown in the 6 months that I have had her. She is the tallest of my beagles but definitely still a puppy! She loves to play and has a lot of energy. She plays with the other beagles and with me and sometimes even by herself if no one else is up for playing. She still likes to chew. Some of her favorite chew toys are shoes (especially flip flops) and sticks and any other chew toy. She loves to pick up a toy and prance by another beagle try to get them to chase her or play tug with her.
Reese's is not at all food aggressive but she loves food and treats. She has learned which other dogs with whom she can help finish their meals, and she will allow other dogs to help her finish her meals if they can get there fast enough! She is not shy about trying to steal a treat out of another dog’s mouth. She does not have a mean bone in her body. She is super sweet and loving. She loves to snuggle and give kisses.
Reese's house training is pretty good. She still has an occasional accident in the house but is usually good at using a pee pad. I have not crated her since she was a tiny puppy. She will sometimes sleep in a crate on her own with the door open, but she prefers to be with me or another dog. She still eats in one of her crates and knows the command “in your box!” She will run into her box and pop up out of the top of it to wait for her meals (when I first got her, just her little nose could barely reach the top of the crate to pop out, now the whole top half of her body pops out of the top). Baby gates don’t mean anything to her, she just jumps right over them. Reese's barks occasionally, but I would not consider her a loud mouth. She will sometimes bark at people walking by or when trying to get another beagle to play with her, but she rarely is the one to initiate the barking.
Overall, Reese's is a super sweet, loving big puppy. Is she the right puppy for you? She can’t wait to meet her potential furever family!
UPDATE - 19 MARCH 2022: Happy 6th Month Birthday!!! Reese's joined us at today's Adoption Day. What a sweet, cute girl! She just turned 6 months old and weighs around 22 pounds. We're not sure how big she is going to get. Maybe 40-45 pounds as an adult? She loved to give kisses to all the people and won everyone's hearts. However, she is still looking for her forever home and hoping there is a loving family who won't mind adopting a slightly taller girl than your average beagle. Those gangly legs are sweet!
UPDATE - 18 JANUARY 2022: Reese's here! I have been living in my foster home for a couple of weeks now. I have made a lot of progress, but I still am a puppy… I can now go up and down the stairs. I don’t scream and cry as much when I can’t see my foster mom. I go absolutely bonkers for food and treats!!! I’m still working on my house training. I just don’t like getting my paws cold in this weather… Unlike my litter mate, Oreo, I will run right outside with all of the big dogs! I love being in the pack with my big foster sisters. I think I sometimes get on their nerves because I like to get right in their faces. I have gotten growled at a couple of times. I love to play and romp around the yard with my foster brothers and sisters. I come right back inside when called because I know that I get a treat! And did I mention that I love treats?
Basically, I am a super sweet puppy. I love to snuggle with my brother Oreo. We love to play and can sometimes be really noisy. We love to chew on things and can get creative on finding things to chew that we aren’t supposed to… I am still learning boundaries… I will walk on the other dogs in the house to try to find the most comfortable spot to lie down even if it is on top of another dog. I love food and treats so much that I will even try to take them out of another dog’s mouth.
I would love to meet you if you think I would be a good fit for your family. But be warned, my cuteness will probably make you fall in love with me!
NEW - 28 DECEMBER 2021: Momma Pie came to BREW in October, pregnant and ready to give birth any day. On 10/19/21, Pie gave birth to 8 puppies - 5 females and 3 males. Five of the puppies have been adopted, but we are still looking for homes for three puppies, including Reese's. We did a DNA test on one of the puppies, and the results showed they are a mix of beagle and a variety of hounds, so they are likely to grow up to be larger than our typical beagles (40 - 50 pounds). We never know, especially since we have no information about the father. Reese's has already had her first set of puppy shots and hopes she can find her new family soon!
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
