About Me
Meet Ribbit
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3 Years
Estimated Weight: 26 Pounds
UPDATE - 20 JUNE 2023: Ribbit has been in a foster home for a few weeks. Here is a report from his new foster mom:
Ribbit is a true example of why dogs are man's best friend. He follows me from room to room, and jumps up for belly rubs as soon as I sit down. When we pass other people on walks, he's always desperate to go say hi. And at night he wants nothing more than to burrow under a blanket and lay at your feet. While he appreciates other dogs, he's most excited to find his forever person.
On top of being extremely loyal, Ribbit is smart (he house trained himself in three days and learns tricks quickly); playful (he loves to play fetch and wrestle with our other dogs); and un-beagley in the best ways (he's more interested in you than his nose, lacks the oily hound coat, and has a cute high pitched bark instead of the normal beagle baroo).
He does have some seperation anxiety and would do best in a household with retirees, remote workers, or anyone else that's home most of the time. He also needs a home that understands he will likely develop arthritis due to a congenital defect with his elbows. While he gets around just fine, his front legs bow out a bit and his run is more of a funny scuttle. He also had a partial ligament tear in his back leg that, while seemingly healed, may require attention in the future. But those things are minor compared to all the love he will bring!
UPDATE - 3 DECEMBER 2022: Ribbit joined us today at the adoption event and had a great time! He is a very sweet beagle mix who loves everyone! He doesn't look like most beagles, but he is hoping that there is a family out there who will be charmed by his personality and adopt him!
NEW - 25 NOVEMBER 2022: This handsome beagle mix is Ribbit. He is super sweet and submissive, loves people and is good with other dogs. He was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
