About Me
Rocky
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: Born 1/11/25
Estimated Weight: 15 Pounds at 5 Months (adult weight ~25 pounds).
NEW - 20 JUNE 2025 (from foster family): Rocky is a 5-month-old male beagle puppy who was surrendered to BREW by his owner. His parents’ work commitments were not allowing them to provide him with the attention a puppy needs and also recently found out they were pregnant. They made the difficult decision to do what was best for him and surrender him to BREW.
From his previous owners: He plays well with other dogs as he has been to a boarding facility several times and enjoys playtime with our neighbor's dog. He also plays well with our 4-year-old daughter and neighbor's kids.
Rocky is a typical beagle puppy: adorable, curious, energetic, loves playing with our 3 other beagles, and wants to chew everything. He’s crate trained already (thanks previous owners!) and basically potty trained - as long as you let him out every few hours, as we have had a couple of accidents. He hasn’t yet fully learned to let us know when he needs to go out, but we try to keep him on a schedule so he can relieve himself regularly.
He loves being outside, lying on the deck, and taking in all nature around him - especially sticks. Rocky also loves all dog toys, but you have to keep an eye on him with any soft toys, as he tries to shred and eat them. He loves playing tug and will growl if you try and take the toy, but we don’t think it’s resource guarding, just vocal play. We’re working on the “give” command, as he loves fetching, but doesn’t love giving it back. Rocky is super fun and playful and does well going into a crate (never for punishment) so he can rest (never for punishment). We think he’s still learning to regulate play time with rest time, so we give him crate time to decompress so he doesn’t wear himself out.
Rocky has a high energy level and would do well with another dog (3-5 years old) to show him the ropes and to have as a play buddy. He has some separation anxiety, so another dog will help with that as well. From what we know, it sounds like he does well with children, but as a precaution you should always supervise kid and dog time, regardless of dog age. We haven’t tried walking him on a leash, but his previous owner said he’s not a huge fan of his harness, which I’m sure he can learn with some time.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
