About Me
Meet Rohan
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3-4 Years
Estimated Weight: 31 Pounds
UPDATE - 29 DECEMBER 2021: Rohan had his cherry eye fixed, and he is lookin' good! Here he is showing off his new look. Handsome boy (and he knows it!).
UPDATE - 11 DECEMBER 2021: Are you looking for a love bug who loves children? Rohan joined us for our adoption event today, and he was in heaven when surrounded by a bunch of kids who were petting him and rubbing his belly. What a ham! No one stepped up to adopt this short-legged boy, but we know his forever home is out there somewhere!
UPDATE - 5 DECEMBER 2021 (from foster family): We’ve had Rohan for almost 2 weeks, and he is like a puppy! His tail is always wagging, and he is ready to play 24/7! That being said, you have to watch what you leave out because he will try and play with it—shoes, carpets, cords, whatever he can find. He loves playing with toys, too! He is a very curious dog and wants to know what everything is.
Rohan gets along great with our pup, and the two of them play whenever I let them. Rohan will chase our dog around our kitchen island. He would do well as a single dog in a home, but he would also do well with a younger dog to play with (or a dog who can be assertive and tell Rohan when they don’t want to play anymore).
When I am working from home, Rohan will go to the dog bed in the office and sleep for a few hours until it is time to go out again. At night, he sleeps in a dog crate and has done fine. He is mostly house-broken and has only had a couple accidents in the house that were in the first few days of being with us.
Over the holidays Rohan met two other dogs in the family that he got along with. He just wanted to play with them! He also met a toddler, which he did fine with, but he also wanted to play with her.
He will make a great dog for whoever adopts him! He loves cuddles and getting pets, although with new people he might be a bit timid at first.
UPDATE - 25 NOVEMBER 2021: Happy Thanksgiving to Rohan, who found himself a foster home! We are looking forward to seeing how this boy does as a house dog!
UPDATE - 25 OCTOBER 2021 (from kennel manager): Rohan had a blast on a recent visit to a dog park. He would chase and play with whoever would engage. It was quite comical to see him romping around with that long body and short legs - reminded me of an "inch worm" slinking around the park. He's a super affectionate beagle boy and is great with other dogs.
UPDATE - 5 OCTOBER 2021: Rohan has completed his heartworm treatment and is now available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 19 AUGUST 2021: This fun-loving guy is Rohan. He’s a beagle mix who was a stray from the Culpeper Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is currently being treated for heart worms and will be available once his treatment is completed.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
