Sky – Adopted February 2021

Sky – Adopted February 2021

About Me

Meet Sky
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2 Years
Estimated Weight: 30-32 Pounds

NOTE: Needs to be an only dog.

UPDATE – 6 FEBRUARY 2021 (from foster mom): Sky is a sweet girl who just wants to be loved and is so eager to be a good girl. She is smart and highly responsive to training. Sky is full of affection and is looking to be the only dog in a loving home, with kindly, but consistently, enforced boundaries. She has quickly adapted to the routines of our home but remains a youthful, curious girl who has discovered her ability to climb our barstools and get on the counter! With her agile climbing abilities, chain link is out! If she is lucky enough to find a home with a backyard, 6’ft wood fencing is a must. Sky loves her crate and walks beautifully on a leash. She is friendly and curious on walks. Though she he has seen children and is curious, Sky has yet to meet any. If you are looking for a devoted canine companion, a dog who will adore you and think you hung the moon, Sky is for you. As outgoing as she is, Sky very much needs consistency so she will feel secure. She can be uncertain of her place in a pecking order when with other dogs. Sky has done well with my laid back beagle but has had to learn that I can in fact pet two dogs at a time and she does not need to push him out of the way. She will do best as an only dog with adopter(s) who will work with her on socialization and training. She is a quick study and all efforts will be amply rewarded by one truly wonderful dog.

UPDATE – 30 JANUARY 2021: Good news – we found a foster home for Sky, so stay tuned as we learn more about this pretty girl as she adjusts to being back in a home.

NEW – 17 DECEMBER 2020: Sky was an owner-give up at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia because her family had to move and were not allowed to bring a dog. No other information was provided. Sky seems sweet and playful with people and dogs she knows, but she can be a little uncertain and fearful around strangers. She is strong and will need a confident leader when being put on a leash. She is already vetted, so she is available for fostering or adoption by an experienced dog owner.

Questions?

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
