About Me
Meet Thomasina
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 28 Pounds
UPDATE - 22 NOVEMBER 2023: Thomasina is loving living in a home, "Tut tut, we will brook no soiling of the residence!" With her stubby little legs, she frequently needs a boost getting up stairs but judging from her exceptionally broad chest, she has a big heart (with a puppy's face). Her ears go on for miles. As does Thomasina on a hike. She is not about sniffing around but about making tracks. "Tut, tut, we will have no stragglers!" She calls back to her foster sister and brothers when they line up behind her on the trail. Thomasina is no alpha but she inspires loyalty in her foster kin. Here are things Thomasina likes:
- snuggling in a doggie bed with her brother,
- gazing meaningfully into foster daddy's eyes and yearning for foster daddy when he leaves (Tommy actually bangs her front feet on the door in protest, but causes no damage),
- morning sun bathing in the yard
- meeting new people (Tommy Girl is reduced to a tail wagging her entire body)
UPDATE - 16 NOVEMBER 2023: Thomasina is now in a foster home and doing very well! Here is an update from her foster family:
Alert to all the beagle-deprived! Thomasina, aka Tommy Girl, provides love and cuddles in a lowrider package and is available to those seeking a precious angel old enough to know better. Tommy has fastidious manners in the house and will let you know that you are the important one if you rescue her. She gets along very well with her foster brothers and sisters, and enjoys car rides and hikes. But she has to be first on the trail, don't expect her to follow! She will complain loudly and threaten to bite her leash in half. TG is an adventurous foodie, sampling veggies and apples, and if they are not to her liking, will leave them politely on the floor. TG will submit to being crated as long as a soft bed is supplied and peanut butter filled kongs are aplenty. This is a sweet baby who checks all the boxes for someone in search of a smart girl.
UPDATE - 15 JULY 2023: Thomasina joined us at our adoption event today, and she is so sweet! She looked for love from every person she met! She wasn't a fan of the leash, but this was her first experience with being leashed walked for several hours. She is an older girl who is still looking for a foster home or adopter.
NEW - 20 MAY 2023: Thomasina is a sweet beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She is fairly low key. She was a stray from the Amelia County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. We needed to treat her for heartworms, but she is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
