About Me
Meet Venice
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1-2 Years
Estimated Weight: 22 Pounds
NOTE: Needs another dog for company and play.
UPDATE - 13 FEBRUARY 2023: We've had Venice (or as I like to call her "Vinnie") for about a month now, and she's such a little cutie! She's learned basic commands (sit and down), become part of the pack with our two resident dogs, and enjoyed zooming around our fenced backyard. It's clear that Vinnie is happiest when she has a playmate, so we would recommend that she only go to a home with another playful dog. Don't let her small stature fool you! She has no problem wrestling with our 55 pound Lab puppy and frequently puts him in his place. While their play is generally good natured, she has displayed resource guarding tendencies and needs to be separated during meal time or when high-value treats are around. Otherwise, she's a little sweetie who wants nothing more than to curl up on your lap.
UPDATE - 14 JANUARY 2023: Venice joined us today at the Adoption Day and had a great time meeting all the dogs and people. She is full of energy! She would do great with a family who can help her burn off some of that energy with plenty of walks and playtime. What a cutie!
UPDATE- 27 DECEMBER 2022 (from foster mom): Venice has been the BEST holiday houseguest! She’s a cuddle bug who loves sleeping next to you on the sofa, but she can also be playful and silly and run around the house. Her tail is always wagging, and she is excited to meet new people. Venice stays quietly in her crate all night, and she hasn’t had an accident since her first day with me (she signals when she wants to go out and does her business relatively quickly, a great trait when it’s cold outside!). **She is still young and puppyish and will steal your newspaper or chew up your paperwork if it’s on the floor.
Venice is a joyful, happy little girl who will make you smile and will melt away your winter blues.
UPDATE - 17 DECEMBER 2022: Great news for Venice - she finally found herself a foster home where she can show us her true personality! She has been waiting for a long time, so stay tuned as we learn more about Venice and how she does as a house dog.
UPDATE - 23 NOVEMBER 2022: Little Venice has completed her heartworm treatment and is available for fostering or adoption.
UPDATE - 10 AUGUST 2022: Poor Venice has tested positive for heartworms, so she will need to go through treatment before being available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 19 JULY 2022: Venice is a young, smaller beagle mix who is sweet, mostly submissive and friendly. She gets along with most dogs but can occasionally be a little choosy. This may be due to her being in a kennel situation. We will continue to evaluate this. Venice was surrendered to the Buckingham Animal Shelter in Virginia with Kenzie, Brighe, Birdie Mae and Kamari. They are now all with BREW. We don't know their history. Venice will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
