About Me
Wallen
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3 Years (Est DOB 3/10/2023)
Estimated Weight: 34 Pounds
UPDATE - 4 AUGUST 2026: Wallen has mastered going outside to use the potty. He still sleeps through the night. He is getting more comfortable and sometimes sleeps in the adult bed next to his foster brother.
He loves getting attention and will come up to get pet or just to snuggle and lay next to you on the couch. He loves playing with all the toys and brings them into his doggy bed to take a nap with them after playing. After a long play, he’s down for the count and you can sometimes find him laying on his back snoring!
Wallen still needs to learn to not pull on a walk. This is usually only the case when he finds a scent he likes. Most of the time he walks easy and just stops to watch the view (or sniff the flowers).
Wallen is great with other dogs big and small. He shows no signs of aggression or food aggression.
Wallen is also great in car rides. He likes to go to Chick-Fil-a!
UPDATE - 20 JULY 2026 (from foster family): Meet Wallen! Wallen is adjusting well to a home life. He’s definitely enjoying the air conditioning, a soft bed, toys and another playmate!
He’s got the hang of going potty outside and sleeping through the night in his doggy bed. He gets super excited and does a dance for treats and his meals. Wallen loves his walks but, in true beagle fashion, once he catches a scent the beagle comes out with some pulling and catching the scent he’s found!
Wallen is a sturdy boy and has to learn his manners to not jump when getting excited to see his people. He also is a little skittish when he sees things he’s not familiar seeing (someone running past him, someone on a bike or a sudden loud noise). He’s fine being left a lone for a few hours not crated and shows no signs of separation anxiety.
Wallen would probably love another doggy friend but would do well being the only dog as long as he gets the attention he needs.
UPDATE - 15 JULY 2026: Our long-bodied Wallen went to a foster home today! He rode in the car like a champ and is such a sweet boy! We'll be hearing more about Wallen soon from his foster family.
NEW - 29 MARCH 2026: Wallen is a sturdy beagle boy who was surrendered with 4 other beagles to the Buckingham Animal Shelter in Virginia by an elderly man who could no longer care for them. Wallen is friendly and good with other dogs. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
