About Me
Meet Zari
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 6 Years
Estimated Weight: 29 Pounds
UPDATE - 6 FEBRUARY 2022: Zari is a very sweet but very timid girl. She loves to run and play with other dogs. She is not much of a snuggler but she will graciously accept a belly rub. She loves long walks and seems to have a long range.
She scares easily at sudden/loud noises and prefers a quiet environment. She has done really well with all dogs she has been around, be we are not sure about cats. She is mostly house trained but has an accident occasionally.
UPDATE - 26 SEPTEMBER 2021: Zari has now been in a foster home for a few weeks and is starting to come out of her shell. She joined us for our Adoption Day yesterday and is a very sweet girl - just a little timid, although she did surprising well meeting a bunch of strangers. Here is what her foster family says about Zari:
Zari can be very nervous/jumpy. She doesn't like loud cars, school buses, construction, etc. Anything generally loud or visually exciting will cause her to try and flee. She is very afraid of thunder and lightning. She is starting to come out of her shell with us, but if we approach too fast, she will generally remove herself. She is very submissive.
She is comfortable on the leash but has an uneven pace. We are still working on house breaking. She has had a couple of chewing incidents on occasion.
Zari has demonstrated that she is very dog-oriented and often will run to Bella (our resident dog) if she is scared by something. She loves to play and has great energy for playing with other gentle dogs. We think she really should be in a house with another dog.
UPDATE - 28 AUGUST 2021: This sweet girl found a foster home today, so stay tuned as we see how she adjusts to living in a house!
UPDATE - 6 AUGUST 2021: Zari is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 2 AUGUST 2021: Zari is a pretty beagle mix, with a cropped tail, who is sweet and friendly but submissive. She and Sancho were dropped off as strays to the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so their histories are unknown. Zari will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
