UPDATE - 14 MAY 2025: If you are looking for the happiest dog on earth, check out these great videos of Zhorik at the park:
Here is the latest update from his foster family: Zhorik has been doing amazing in his foster home. He’s been with us for 2 months now and has become so confident in house life and is such a sweetheart! He absolutely loves yummy treats, playing with toys, and going for walks! He has been to the dog park a few times and really enjoys that too! He still sleeps in his crate at night and is perfect overnight! He won’t make a sound and will sleep for 8-9 hours until you’re awake and ready to take him out. We have stopped using the crate during the day when we leave the house because he has crate anxiety when left alone. This has completely disappeared since removing the crate during this time. We were worried at first, but he has proven himself repeatedly for weeks now! We set up cameras in the house and after we leave he jumps up on the couch, finds his blanket, and just sleeps until someone returns!!! He is so gentle and great around kids and other dogs (big or small)!!! Unknown around cats.
Zhorik is such an awesome little guy. He loves to cuddle and will follow you around the house in the cutest way possible! He’s currently a solo-dog in his foster home and thriving, but he absolutely loves other dogs so we have no doubt he would do well in a home as a co-dog either. He did get to enjoy a weekend of fun when another dog came for a few days and they were the best of friends within minutes! If you’re looking for a cuddle bug and best friend with a heart of gold he is definitely your guy!!!!
UPDATE - 8 APRIL 2025 (from foster family): Zhorik has been a delight to have these last few weeks as a foster. He’s so handsome and even more sweet. I can’t say enough nice things about his demeanor! His favorite things to do are eating-eating-eating, walks, toys, and cuddling with his humans. He will drape himself on top of your lap like a warm blanket and not move! He is your shadow around the house and wants to be wherever you are especially if a bed or couch is nearby!
His housebreaking is progressing well. He had a few accidents in a potty-training diaper early on, but they are few and far between now. He has been great in the sense that every time we take him out, he pees and poops within minutes. It’s just a matter of learning his subtle signs that it’s bathroom time.
Crate training has been a semi-challenge for him. He just wants to be with someone always. He is happy and quiet in the crate if people are in the same room as him or walking around in adjacent rooms and he can hear you. A major plus is he’ll sleep overnight in the crate without a sound if he can see you in your bed and knows you’re there! The semi-challenging part is when you leave he gets sad that he’s not going with you. Fortunately, we learned this wasn’t the case when he had a friend to keep him company! A BREW alumni Charley (formerly Arnie) came one weekend and Zhorik was thrilled! He absolutely adored having a dog friend in the house with him. They played, cuddled, and did everything together – two peas in a pod. It also helped with the crate training. He was happily able to sleep downstairs and spend all his time away from his humans if he had his furry friend Charley with him! He absolutely can’t get enough of other dogs – big or small it doesn’t matter! We have not tried leaving him with house freedom outside of the crate when we’re gone – not sure if he would be mischievous or settle down (this is not something we want to do until we are 100% confident in his housebreaking).
Zhorik is such an awesome dog and would thrive as both a solo dog or co-dog because he’s so adaptable and loving. He would be a great solo dog if someone is home all the time or has a big family to spend time with him. He would also be a great second or third dog for someone that maybe isn’t home as often because he loves other dogs, and they love him so he would have the companionship he needs to occupy himself! He is full of fun, wags, and love!
UPDATE - 15 MARCH 2025: Good news for Zhorik - he attended today's Adoption Day and ended up going to a foster home! Let's see how this handsome tri-color does figuring out how to be a house pet.
UPDATE - 15 FEBRUARY 2025: Handsome and happy - that is how we describe this boy! Zhorik was a last-minute add-on to attend our Adoption Day today, and he had a blast! He fit in beautifully with all the other dogs and people. He is still young and has energy, but he would love to find a family who is looking for social dog with some energy. Zhorik is still available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 11 JANUARY 2025: Zhorik is a very handsome beagle boy who is friendly and good with other dogs. He was a stray from the Green County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. Zhorik is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
