About Me
Meet Monroe
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-9 Years
Estimated Weight: 35 Pounds
NOTE: May not be good for an apartment (can be noisy)
UPDATE - 7 JUNE 2022: What more can be said about this best boy? Perfect in every way. A delight to have around. Especially if you need some ear candy. He is the sweetest boy. Sometimes when I am watching tv, he comes over to ask for upsies, and we rock for a little bit and he is tickled to death. But then he has to hop down to see if someone wants to play. It's so hard to believe that Monroe has still not found his forever home!
UPDATE - 27 MAY 2022: Since all his young foster sisters got adopted, Monroe has no one to tussle with or tell jokes to, no one to snuggle with or be a step ladder for (see video, Monroe and Friend). Uncle Monty, as he is known to the foster beagle kids, has a bounty of youthful energy that he would love to share with any kids who need some company. We often catch him staring into the distance as he sits in the backyard, no doubt dreaming of his forever home.
UPDATE - 16 MAY 2022: Monroe has now been to many adoption events and still hasn't found his forever home! We don't understand since he is such a sweet boy whose tail never stops wagging. His foster family recently found out he likes squeaky toys. Check out his video at Monroe Loves Squeaky Toys!
UPDATE - 4 APRIL 2022: Monroe is now in a new foster home. He is such a sweet boy whose tail never stops wagging! Here is an initial report from his new foster family (and a great video of Monroe hard at work, Monroe hard at work):
Since moving in a couple of days ago, Monroe has increased the personality quotient of his foster home by a multiple of 10. He has moved apprisingly through the house like an Air Bein' Beagle guest, testing each bed for comfiness. Monroe will snore loudly when he has found just the right spot. He is housetrained, it seems, and walks easily on the leash, enjoying hikes in the park or jaunts around the neighborhood. Monroe gets along with his foster brothers. His major complaint concerns the skimpiness of snacks and he always looks disappointed when he finishes his meals. Monroe has been quiet unless he wants to come in the house and you are not quick enough to open the door. He is a fun boy who adores cuddles.
UPDATE - 19 FEBRUARY 2022: Monroe was able to join us at our adoption event today, but he didn't find his forever family and returned to his foster home. He did great at the event and made friends with everyone he met. Monroe's foster mom did want to provide a couple of updates on Monroe. She said he can be a little noisy when he is left alone, so she would love to find him a forever family who can be home with him most of the time. He also loves her fenced back yard, and she would like to find a home for Monroe with a fenced yard where he can roam and sniff.
UPDATE - 27 DECEMBER 2021 (from foster mom): Monroe is doing well in his foster home. He is very sweet and friendly. He gets along great with all the other resident dogs. Monroe is a laid back boy who loves walks and attention. He uses the dog door with no accidents.
UPDATE - 3 DECEMBER 2021: Chunky Monroe is now fully vetted and headed off to a foster home. He is available for adoption.
NEW - 22 NOVEMBER 2021: Monroe is an adult beagle boy who is super sweet and good with other dogs. He was a stray from Caroline County in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
